   Since the forums are full of threads about the US election... here's a place for the aussies to hang out, and discuss (laugh) at that election or verbally bash our own leaders and opposition (for those in the US, that's Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott.)

               Well that's fine with the rest of the world. China and Europe are the new powers and nobody really sees the US as a super power anymore, unfortunately. Just like what happened to the UK.

                           Jealous? I live next door to your nation and for the most part I am content for things to remain that way. I have many American friends and I always enjoy myself when I visit them. But I in no way feel any jealousy toward your county. I am happy and proud to live in the country I do.
                           
                           You, on the other hand (based on the ideas you choose to brandish about the forums here), appear to be unhappy, indifferent toward the hardships of your fellow citizens, and to a large degree, ignorant of the rest of the world. Why would I be jealous of you?

                              Why would you be jealous of me? Maybe because I can stay on topic? I never said anyone is jealous of me, I have alot of faults and wouldn't ever deny that. I find it typical of those holding a different political viewpoint than mine to create nothing out of thin air, fine job and viva la Canada.

                                 First of all, I appreciate your effort to address me in the French language. That you referred to Canada in the feminine makes me feel kinder and gentler toward you already!
                                 
                                 Second, I wasn't really being serious in my comments about you. I was kidding you in an effort to draw you into a playful sparring match. After all, we're all kin in the truth of things. Right?
                                 
                                 Third, we weren't talking about politics; we were talking about "not caring", which is the sentiment I responded to. You must admit, the US does have a reputation for involving itself in parts of the world where they are most likely to establish profitable business relationships. Caring hardly ever seems to be the primary motive in US aid initiatives. Your comment, "Its not ignorance we just don't care." looks like pretty good evidence that your country's reputation is based on something more than the "jealousy" you referred to.
                                 
                                 The personal reference to you was, as I said, just kidding between fellow Hubbers. The forums is a place where we often play rough with each other, but it is just play. Right?
                                 
                                 I don't mind at all if you respond with an unflattering comment about me. You are still my fellow Hubber.

                           But then you appear to ignore the fact that so many other 'older' countries sent, shared or gave up their best.. to allow your fledgling country to develop! 
                           
                           Possibly, your memory is too selective to accurately pursue and remain humble to your roots! 
                           
                           Jealousy has absolutely nothing to do with how the rest of the world views your country.... from where we come from (Australasia) ... that emotion tends to apply to those who can't compare with our lifestyle! 
                           
                           Aren't you jealous that Australia has Rolf Harris and Dame Edna?
                           
                           @ niteriter -  Sure... If you think you can get away with dressing it up and calling her Nora ...  but hey.. we have some stout women here who can offer you at least the same level of 'protection' mate!

                              PD, you are a treasure without whom the world would be much lacking in true wisdom. But it makes me sad to see your pearls (couldn't resist!) trampled by a knave like Repairguy. He doesn't understand the concept of wisdom, given as he is to swaggering about shouting phrases he's memorized from Fox News.
                              
                              About those stout women, I was well on the way to waxing loquacious about my feelings of kinship with my brothers and sisters in your great land. But then, I would be in a bit of a pickle if I became romantically attached to one of those women, wouldn't I?

                              My question to you is, "How the hell can you see lights beyond the horizon?" The horizon surely is the limit of your sight.

                              Most Americans recognize that the USA would not exist today if not for the support and assistance received from our global allies. In every armed conflict since the American Revolution, they have fought by our side. The blood of their sons and daughters has mixed with the blood of our own for over 300 years.             Did you know that the Phycodurus eques is the official marine emblem of the state of South Australia, not only that but I just wrote an article about the Phycodurus eques which will be published tomorrow.
            
            Unfortunately the US still has the ego of a superpower and that is not good news for the rest of the world . . . could be an interesting next four months, seeya at the End of the World!

                        TV was designed to lower your mental capacity, I sold mine almost five years ago and do not regret it. I'm learning to silence my mind and think with my heart and soul. No more electronic addiction, next to go will be the cell phone,  I don't use it anyway.

   Australian olitics was defined by a visiting American'I think P.J.O'Rourke as too many journalists looking for too few stories.Not much really happens.We've had one story for the last 18 months and that's Julia and her Carbon Tax by any other name.I call the Labour /greens coalition the Browns because that's the colour you get it if you mix them together.
