According to Tommy Sotomayor, an internet star who is Black, Blacks have not contributed anything significant to world civilizations & cultures.  Mr. Sotomayor indicated that Blacks only contributed anything either when enslaved or colonized by Caucasians.   Mr. Sotomayor furthermore cited Reverend Manning who maintained that it was mostly Europeans who built civilizations, not Africans.   Here's is the link as to what Mr. Sotomayor & Reverend Manning stated:

Tommy Sotomayor is known as the Black contrarian.  He has espoused these views about his fellow Blacks.  He remarked that Blacks have a lower IQ than Caucasians then sets to prove this by citing the socioeconomic conditions of Blacks vs Caucasians.  Of course, people who are well versed in civilizations & cultures KNOW better.    Blacks have built civilizations & contributed to worldwide civilizations & cultures.   History & culture are written by the winner or dominant societies-Mr. Sotomayor as the provocateur refuse to acknowledge this.   I learned about the contributions of Blacks to civilization in my high school class.   I KNOW better, just wanted to show THE MENTAL STATE of Mr. Sotomayor.

@Ptosis, Mr. Sotomayor is a self-hating Black.   By the way, I am BLACK.

Don't you think he is trying to get a rise out of people?  Maybe he has the opinion that his criticisms will lead to a bunch of comments/followers who say, "no way Tommy, don't you know that George Crum invented the potato chip," or "George Washington Carver had hundreds of discoveries." He tricks people into "proving him wrong" to grow his audience.  He may also attract the wrong kind of followers, who agree with him.  Put the two groups on a shared thread and you've got a lot of hits.....

Maybe he doesn't realize that history has hidden what Blacks have done for us.

Dr. Ben Carson could set him straight in minutes.

Not only Dr. Carson but Tariq Nasheed, Professor Smalls, and other Black scholars.   However, I think Mr. Sotomayor knows better.  He is doing this for attention!  He LOVES  getting attention.  Mr. Sotomayor is Black & highly educated, he KNOWS better!

Well they didn’t really have the chance to contribute anything while not enslaved because they were enslaved. Who knows what Africa would look like today if they hadn’t been? Who knows what they would have willingly contributed if not forced to?

As the first humans on the planet were in Africa and (I assume) black, your statement that they had no chance to contribute makes no sense.  Besides, if we assume that all Africans were dark skinned (black) they contributed fire, they were the first tool users and the first artists.  If northern Africans were black they also built the first civilization.  We would not be where we are today without black contributions.

Yes, sorry, I was unclear. I was trying to suggest that we can’t possibly know what they might have contributed during the time of enslavement because they were in fact enslaved, as the original suggestion was they only made contributions because of it. Not that it was the only window for contributions. Does that make sense? Probably not. I have a fever. Just ignore me.

Good point.  If they invented something while enslaved you can bet that their "owner" took the credit.

Take it easy and get well!

I'm always amazed at how people don't know that in the south there were thousands of black who owned thousands of slaves.  One of the largest slave owners in North Carolina was a black man.  We really need to get away from this misconception that all black people during slavery were slaves.  Thousands were also slave owners.  https://www.snopes.com/facts-about-slavery/

Okay... but that doesn’t change the fact that 12 million Africans were taken from their home and shipped across the Atlantic in a slave trade, does it?

Your link was an interesting read, with valid observations, Readmikenow.

Hopefully your statement about North Carolina's largest slaveholder being black was just an unintended slip-up, because it was the first statement Snope's labeled as false, in your linked article.

Black people are one of the strongest man power race on earth. They couldn't get much chance to build a civilisation in past though, but now much is changed, and black are contributing a lot to the society.

So what is the significance of one 'Uncle Tom'? It is not that the concept is a new one from the perspective of American History?

I think that politically speaking to most liberals , the new "uncle Tom "  is the black conservative .  Dr. Ben Carson comes to mind  , a man who should be admired , revered and much duplicated .  Sheriff David Clark is another ,  There are dozens and dozens more extremely gifted and unappreciated men and women .

One day perhaps , we won't see ,think and  apply colors to good men and women.

True, but I am not keen on conservatives, regardless of their color. There are few 'black conservatives' and they make their case, but I remain strongly opposed to their positions, regardless

It's all very interesting to the far ,far more intuitive conservatives though that  there is a defined pattern of  this in the democratic party .   Make out that any opposition to liberal ideologies , by conservative black men and woman is all but a crime !

          That cannot be denied.

Credence2posted 6 years agoin reply to this

A pattern is pretty well defined among the Republicans and Trumpers, as well. I say that whatever side of the GOP one clings to sucks, all the same. It is about the same difference as fecal matter and excrement.

And "intuitive" is not the word that I would use to describe conservatives

Politically conservative Black advocates who should know the deleterious effects  of conservative policies on our communities since the founding of the Republic should know better than think that any allegiance with this sort is going to be of any real benefit. It never has been........

Credence , And the left so naive as to truly think republicans are and have been  in charge of the most  ghetto ridden inner cities FOR ONE HUNDRED YEARS - wrong ! Democrats rule those crime  kingdoms and slums.
              Check you facts .
But keep blaming the right , in the projects they still believe you.
