    No. This constitutes an obvious conflict of interest in the case and prosecution would protest. The same would be said of any lawyer who would have close ties to the defendant. The lawyer-wife, however, could act as an adviser and be part of the legal counsel's team. Laws could vary from state to state and might also be dependent on the nature of the offense.
