Who do you think will become known as the worst president, Barack Obama or Jimmy Carter?

Barack Obama will be known as the worst president because he put the country and the next two generations in hock because of his spending.

By the general public, or by historians? Either way, it won't be possible to answer your question usefully for several generations, and even then not indisputably.

I think one has to look at it from several perspectives. Much of the downstream costs of the Vietnam Conflict and the spending of LBJ's Great Society finally came home on Carter's watch. He further complicated that with broad social spending during his time. When interests rate at consumer levels reache double-digits, Carter lost all confidence of the voters. The Iran Hostage situation finished the deal. In terms of Obama, we seem to have emergencies either real or contrived on all fronts. There is a tendency on the part of his administration to assign blame and not accept responsibility, to use "emergencie" to point out failure and deem that change is necessary.  In the end, I think voters will look back on the Obama era as a time in which America almost lost sight of who and what it was. It will become the greatest era of attempted socialist reform in the history of the United States therefore Obama gets my vote hands down as the absolute worst. WB

Only time will tell, we've only had two years of Obama. Historians will probably rank them both in the top ten though.

I think the the worst president was Herbert Hoover, followed by the group of presidents before Lincoln and then Carter.

I see the critisizm of the president to be honest, He was a Democrat voted by democrats. He is only doing what he said he was going to do.

Both were partly victims of circumstances beyond their control. Unfortunately, Presidents are judged for what happens under their watch, not for events immediately preceding and following their terms. The high interest rates under Carter, after all, were necessary to start getting inflation under control. Reagan, however, is given credit - some of it deserved - for being the guy to bring inflation under control. Obama is blamed for the debt, but this is largely the product of the Bush tax cuts and the financial implosion that started just before his presidency. Bush spent just as irresponsibly, but more revenue was coming in, largely due to a financial bubble. This is why it is very tricky to assign responsibility for circumstances.

Jimmy Carter was horrible but the idiot we have have now will go down as the worst president in the history of this country.

Please note Webster's defines an idiot as a foolish or stupid person so when I describe Obama as an idiot, I'm not calling names but rather accurately describing the man.

I'm pretty sure they would run a tie.

It's a pretty bad situation overall for Obama.  I think the worst is yet to come from this administration.

Jimmy made us look weak in the world arena, and Obama is doing at least an equal job of that.

They are tied for the honor:  Worst politicians.

People are so clueless about how Presidents do their jobs. GW Bush was the one putting us in "hock"...not Obama. He inherited this mess we are in. It takes years for bad decisions to trickle down, like "The war" in Iraq and the ridiculous spending we did on it, and Bush is the one who put the bank bailouts in motion. Get it right people! Obama had such a mess to clean up it is a wonder he was successful making the changes he did in the wake of it.

Bush was the WORST president. A fool, a "Gentlemen's C 'Scholar'" who could not talk his way out of a paper bag. The worst President was Andrew Jackson though. He stole land away from the indigenous tribes and gave them blankets with diseases all over them, he was a completely tyrannical and egotistical fool, and cannot even compare to anyone today in his horrific massacre on Native Americans. History paints him differently, as it always does, but research shows he was a complete maniacal  imbecile.
