Is North Korea seeking attention by bullying the South, or is the goal starting World war III?
I'm sure it's a little of both. What better time to attack and create havock, when the world itself is in termoil. Look at Sarah Palin, she's doing it to the citizens of the United States. Using bully tactics to divide and conquer. If it works for her and it does, why not for countries.
Every two years North Korea makes some outrageous new threat. Their goal is to get food or something else they need. They do this once and we all talk about it for a few days. Two years later, they do it again and we talk about it as if it has never happened before. As a nation, the US has the memory of a gnat.
If N Korea did start a World War III, they would have enough money and resources to keep the war going for about 1 month.
Kim Jong Il's son is stepping up to take charge and he wanted to show the military (which is a separate faction in N. Korea) that he wasn't a pushover and was willing to lay the hammer down.
That is the speculation I agree with most. However, it is all just speculation. We can't know for certain why they are stirring up the shit.
