Why do so many of the older generations think younger generations have a sense of entitlement?

Why do so many of the older generations think younger generations have a sense of entitlement? Mind you, I don't agree with this idea that younger generations have entitlement

    en·ti·tle·ment
    noun
the fact of having a right to something.
"full entitlement to fees and maintenance should be offered"
    synonyms:    right, prerogative, claim; More
the amount to which a person has a right.
    "annual leave entitlement"
    synonyms:    right, prerogative, claim;
the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment.
"no wonder your kids have a sense of entitlement"

Each generation will feel that they built something and those arriving later are living off their hard work.

You could say it's an old tradition for the humankind. Old Greeks were constantly worried about their youth not carrying proper values and as an illustration - Socrates was convicted and executed for "corrupting youth".

    Some things never change.

Perception, perhaps. And there may be some truth in it.

During earlier generations, we didn't have such instant gratification with computers and the internet. Kids have grown up thinking that downloading free music is a right, thus the recent popularity of Napster, though it proved illegal.

The American government has shifted slowly and inexorably further and further toward Nanny Socialism, crippling the responsibility and initiative of everyone, particularly the youth who have known nothing else.

This is the type of thing that is slow enough, that most will never notice it, unless they are old enough to see the changes over a lifetime or unless they have studied history thoroughly and from unbiased sources.

danicole......So many of the "older generation" think that the younger generation have a sense of entitlement ....BECAUSE WE OLDER GENERATION RAISED THESE YOUNGER DARLINGS AND CREATED THEIR SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT.... To justify our Boomer, Rebellious, anti-establishment, flower-child, pot-smoking, Grateful Dead, mentality.
That's my final answer.  Any more questions??
One thing I need to make perfectly CLEAR:  My numbers 1-2 & 3 sons did not, do not and never will have a "sense of entitlement." They were not allowed this privilege.
Their baby brother however, has made up for all 3 of them.  This is their mother's fault.  I know her well and forgive her.............
