Why are only children so demonized, even hated by the sibling society and/or culture?

Despite only children comprising now 20% of the population and the increase of 1-child families, there are those who view only children as spoiled, self-indulgent, selfish, & unable to get along w/others. Many people still hold on to atavistic concepts about only children when such outdated stereotypes are far from the truth.  Only children are the most ambitious, creative, independent, & resourceful of all birth orders.

I am an only child.  And I don't felt there is a stereotype at all.  Although, I can say, only child tend to get married later, because growing up along, you can better handle loneliness of been by yourself and are more use to the freedom of doing whatever you want, which you don't get in marriage.
