Should Dylan Roof Be Tried As A Domestic Terrorist? Yes Or No? Why/Why Not?
Some People say, if he was Muslim, he would be tried as a terrorist, but because he's, white and American, he's not considered to be a terrorist.
In my mind, he is indeed a domestic terrorist. He was affiliated with hate groups, wanted to start a "civil war" and killed those innocent people solely because their skin was black. He is the absolute definition of a terrorist. People didn't balk at calling Timothy McVeigh a terrorist, so I don't see what the problem is with calling him what he is - a racist, domestic terrorist.
You target a church, where you know people will be unarmed, and where it will have the most shock value on society - yes, you are a terrorist.
At 21, it's sad his life turned the way it did as he was so young that you would want to believe that he could have been turned around, but that kind of seething hatred and feelings of powerlessness turned into a malignant cancer in this young man. These same issues are what fuel terrorism wherever it occurs. We don't hesitate to call ISIS terrorists - we shouldn't be hypocrites.
Hell. Yes.
"Domestic terrorism" means activities with the following three characteristics:
Involve acts dangerous to human life that violate federal or state law;
Appear intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination. or kidnapping; and
Occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the U.S." - FBI.gov, retrieved 6/23/15
Looks open and shut to me.
Very interesting. I am interested, where did this come from?
I included the source. FBI.gov website.
Wow I hope I never "appear intended to" to a 21 year old gun toting cop!

regardless of religion, he should be regarded as a terrorist, otherwise it would be unfair to the muslims

Well, this has gone largely unreported. The 2014 shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., has spawned a violent domestic threat from “black identity extremists” who have stepped up attacks on police.“It is very likely that BIEs’ perceptions of unjust treatment of African-Americans and the...

Should gang members be deemed domestic terrorist organizations? I grew up in an area in Los Angeles that is replete with gang members of all stripes and flavors. It was routine to be accosted by them and on a couple of occasions shot at. In short these people are sworn to...

I do not know why this case hasn't got more attention. US Coast Guardsman Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson, a self proclaimed white nationalist, is accused of being a "domestic terrorist". Hasson, who is assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, is a former Marine. Hasson was...

Personally, I think he can.The definition of a terrorist is "a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.". Clearly, the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers and al Qaeda and the Taliban fit that definition. But...

There appears to be a resurgence of celebrating the Confederacy in this country, even from a state mandated level such as Virginia in its recent actions. That being said, were Confederates domestic terrorists, bent on destroying what we refer to as the United States of America, our country? Were...

I can't help but wonder if the United States could be considered a terrorist nation. With its actions in the past and the present, can the U.S. be considered terrorists? The treatment of Native Americans, slavery, Cambodia bombing, Iraq, Afghanistan are just a few potential examples. What are...
