Should governments access your personal messages / communications if it was for "national security"?
Agencies such as the U.S. National Security Agency and the UK's National Security Secretariat claim to act in the interest of national security and foreign policy. In doing so, they often have access to the communications of its own citizens, including when and from where emails were sent and phone calls made.
The question is, what other details do they access - and is this correct? What do you think of the justification of it being in the name of "national security"?
That is why we had the need to get search warrants, under the 4th amendment. The Patriot Act bypassed that requirement.
Now that the Patriot Act has phased out, it should be back to search warrants. Or did the government leave something behind to get around it.
