why is Eurasia the centre of the great new chess game between usa and russia? while most wars happened to be in the middle east.
Not really new if you take a long view of history. It's a tournament of shadows all over again. But now the U.S. is the other power. There's a number of reasons: oil & gas, Afghanistan (US bases in Uzbekistan, etc.), and the rise of China. Conflicts are occurring in Central Asia, but they are limited and conducted in secret. We won't probably know everything for another generation. Maybe once Putin is removed from power, things might be get better. But we don't know who is waiting in the wings. The danger of internal conflict in China is real as well. It's a dangerous area with no simple solution.
I guess you're right it's not really new, anyway what do you think could change into the batter if putin wouldn't be the president of russia any more (by the way he wasn't the president from 2008 to 2012)? thanks by the way for the answer.
A more agreeable Russian leader who is not a former KGB agent, would be better for everyone. And although he was not officially the President, Putin was pulling the strings for those 4 years. It's Putin and his puppets.

Is Russia still a threat to the US? Why or why not? After the cold war and the downfall of Russia, can we consider Russia as a force to contend with in this present time? What country poses a bigger threat? You can answer in terms of economic or military force?
