Are there any nations or is it large corporations ruling the world?
The economy is global, many manufacturing jobs have left our shores for foreign countries and pollution has escalated to climate change. How did the economy and pollution grow to gigantic proportions? Would it be because expansionist corporations feel that business conquers borders in the pursuit of natural resources for their usage?
Perhaps an order may be banks → corporations → nations if the money trail is followed. Looking elsewhere a view what or who is ruling the world may in fact be education. I dun'no . . . just a thought.
short answer: yes.
there are two ways to rule a nation: first is to rule directly and openly, tell the people what to do, write laws, etc. another (less obvious) way is to leave it to a loyal puppet while only stepping in when absolutely necessary. today's corporations rule the second way.
corporations really don't "fight" one another because they only care about their market share. it's hard to image a soda company fighting an energy company. a soda company will compete with a competitor in the same market but will then cooperate with that same competitor via a lobbying group to get what they want from the gov.
every industry has its lobbyists who write the laws and tell the politicians to vote for them. the lobbyists promise money and reelection and they deliver. it's a well-oiled and perfectly legal system.
the problem is that short term profits sometimes lead to long term problems. everyone has diabetes. nobody knows what a carrot looks like. can big pharma save us all?
don't like it? vote for another party. also vote with your wallet, buying from smaller, local companies. good luck!

I like to read the opinion of my fellow hubbers regarding the ruling struck down by the Supreme Court today. It seems that the all Republican appointees struck down a ruling regarding regulation of corporations' influence on election and public policy. Bottom line; Huge corporations...

Every day I hear someone talking about how bad the economy is...most of the time, from someone who hasn't a clue as to even basic economics. SO...let's find some viable charts and take a look for ourselves. http://dallasfed.org/data/data/us-charts.pdfTake a gander and let me know your thoughts.

No, they are not. This statement equals a myth. Banks and corporations are necessary in maintaining a percolating economy in a (once) free society such as The United States.
