What is congress doing to keep the country running while the elections look more like an episode of
the TV show survivor?
Remember when congress was distracted in 2008, the economy melted down/
The entire US House of Reps is partially distracted with its own re-election every other year. Sometimes that leads to more attempts at legislation and more theatrics in Congress. Only one-third of the Senate is up for re-election during the same cycle, so it's typically business as usual there.
That isn't entirely true because as we saw in 2008, the entire congress was campaigning for their party, even those that weren't up for reelection. NO one was watching the economy, and it wasn't thought to be an important presidential campaign issue

Be allowed to lobby Congress. Robert Reich posed this question recently and the answers were all over the place from globalization to isolationism as a way to "cure" it from happening.
