Do you agree with Donald Trump's opinion that minimum wage should stay at $7.25? Why not or why?
If Donald Trump would be satisfied with $7.25 an hour, I would be ok with it too. But 7.25 an hour is not a living wage for most people.
Neither is the average SS retirement benefit. But the federal workers get a good retirement, excellent benefits including health. And the taxpayers are paying for that. What kind of jobs are these a min wage?
You cannot justify raising the minimum wage when:
* there's too much untapped talent; while official unemployment is 5%, the real unemployment rate is 10-15%, with 5% dropped out of the workforce, another 5% on early retirement or seeking disability
* the labor pool can still grow; a large pool of illegal immigrants undercut wages for native born Americans, which is why wages for those in the lower class have actually dropped over the past ten years, and raising the minimum wage leads to more jobs given to them over natives
I agree with his answer in the full context that he gave it. He said that min wage would a non issue because as president he would focus on bringing jobs back to America.
How can you argue with that, look at the tens of millions of jobs that have fled from the US over the years, and how our imports have overshadowed our exports.
How many products can you find that say Made in the USA. United States of America?
Then why does Trump himself employ so much Chinese and Mexican labor?
Austinstar. Does he? He employs over 22,000 people in his main company. And he is a majority owner in several others. Some of those companies have brought in foreign workers via visa on a temp basis.
So????
No foreign workers should be "brought in" to work in American companies. Trump also supports opening factories in foreign countries and in putting his money in offshore accounts to avoid taxes. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Austinstar
Then you must have a problem with congress and Obama has they are bringing in foreign workers
I do have a problem with congress, but not Obama. Obama is trying to document the ones already here. Congress is still obstructing everything Obama related, good or bad. They refuse to do their jobs and they should be fired.
Austinstar
You can't have it both ways, these are foreign workers. I don't believe your a Texan. And Obama has done nothing good for the country as pres. He failed with congress, his job is not dem pres, but US pres, and he needed to unify congress.
Yep, I'm as Texan as they come. Have you ever tried to herd bulls? Can't be done. That is what our current congress is like, a herd of bulls full of bullshit. That dog won't hunt.
Austinstar
Neither will your political arguments. You need to beef them up and trim the fat. Seriously, you haven't put facts into your arguments. Don't shoot me, I am reloading.
Heck fire, when you are reloading, i will be firing, it's the best time to shoot! Have you seen the new map? Mexico has agreed to pay for the wall. They will be using the old Mexican maps which include CA, AZ, NM, & TX as their northern border. S
On a certain level, I have to agree with Trump on this one. That is because I'm concerned raising minimum wage would drive employers to hire fewer people, since it would become too costly for them. Ultimately, the entry level people and the poor would suffer.
Rather than fret over minimum wage being too small to support oneself, people should focus on getting job skills that will enable them to earn higher than minimum wage. While still in high school, they can take courses in word processing and auto mechanics. They can work a minimum wage job while still in high school, moving on to higher wages after they graduate. Most minimum wage jobs are part time anyway, and were never meant to support a person.
Personal responsibility is the most important thing here. If you depend on the government, and it falls through, you're screwed. So it's best you handle the matter yourself.
Though an increase would be nice...

The CEO of Gravity, a credit card processing service, cuts his personal pay from a million dollars a year to give the minimum wage earners in his company $70,000 a year. The workers describe the raise as freedom, family starting and house buying ability. Could this be something to spark the economy...

Once again there is a call to raise the minimum wage.Now....common sense and a little education will tell you that when you raise the minimum wage, prices go up to compensate. Also, you stand the chance of having a nice little spike in unemployment from the smaller businesses that can no longer...

I ask this because since the U.S. congress makes six figures a year doing essentially NOTHING for the people that voted them in and THEN denies the unemployed extended comps calling the unemployed 'lazy'. Any jobs that paid a living wage in my state went overseas to cheap foreign labor...
