What Did Obama Mean The Future Must Not Belong To Those That Slander The Prophet Of Islam?
He referred to ISIS as slanderers of Islam. As terrorists, they distort/use the religion for their own purposes, thus slandering the prophet.
This is a good answer, but are ISIS really slandering the prophet? Are they not carrying out what the Koran tells them to do? Kill infidels?
The Koran like the Bibles are not objective, and they can be interpreted in a million ways to make whatever point someone wants to make. The problem is that the only person that knows what it should mean is dead.
The biggest issue I see is that people don't read. Mohammed set up a religion of terrorism. It has been this way for 1400 years. Read the Islamic texts. It is all there. Don't take excerpts that those who wish to manipulate throw out-you read it
"The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam. But to be credible, those who condemn that slander must also condemn the hate we see in the images of Jesus Christ that are desecrated, or churches that are destroyed, or the Holocaust that is denied. Let us condemn incitement against Sufi Muslims and Shiite pilgrims. It’s time to heed the words of Gandhi: Intolerance is itself a form of violence and an obstacle to the growth of a true democratic spirit. Together, we must work towards a world where we are strengthened by our differences, and not defined by them. That is what America embodies, that’s the vision we will support."
The above is a brief snippet from the speech the President gave to the United Nations General Assembly. it means we must NOT fall prey to those who would twist the meaning of a religious text, speech, moral code, etc in order to incite horrible acts in the name of something else. Additionally, all people must condemn the twisted actions and not sit idly by or worse allow the twisting of the words to let prejudice seep in. When this occurs, we then blame Muslims, who are innocent and have no power to rise up against their oppressors, for not rising up. Already, there are many postings on this site, which have a wholesale prejudice toward Muslims instead of the "specific" terrorist who may be Muslim. This sort of thinking allows the Extremists to win more support, as the non-terrorist Muslims become more isolated as we lump everyone in the same group. Hitler used this same game plan. Hitler was able to use human psychology against his own people and allies in order to get them to say and do thing that were abhorrent. Using people's cognitive predisposition to categorize groups allowed him to ingrain new opinions of other groups as a whole; or exacerbate preconceived unfavorable opinions of a group. Obama's speech in a way is warning us against that.
Many people prefer an oversimplification of thought (or lazy thinking) as it makes them feel safe. If “all” Muslims are terrorists then I know who to defend myself against. If only some Muslims are terrorists then whom should I be worried about.
Hitler took advantage of this lazy thinking to justify attacking innocent groups for the so-called greater good.
It is interesting and ironic that you use Hitler as an example considering how the adherents of isIam feel about the Jewish people.
Not really, comment was directed at a specific speech Obama made. Hitler comment is a non-ironic comment based on the speech Obama made about being careful about allowing people to bastardize thoughts, religious doctrine, etc

Being philosophical is not the same as reality, or even a vision that bears a resemblance to reality. The reality is there are Muslim Terrorists, just like there were saboteurs during WWII. We figured out who they were, we can do it again.
Brad: The OP asked what the comment meant and that is what I answered. If someone wants to ask a question on whether there are Muslim terrorists then they can post a new topic question and I will discuss that.
James. I don't see your answer as being on target. How did Hitler get into Obama's speech?
That's fine if you do not think it is on target we are all entitled to our opinions.
James
Who avoided answer my ? How is Hitler in Obama's statement?
I do not need to answer every ? posed to me. I made my point about Hitler's use of "people's cognitive predisposition to categorize groups" and how some people do the same by lumping all Muslims as terrorists as lazy thinking. 1 can agree or not
In reality the opposite is true when millions chant in the streets death to America and death to Israel, calling for the complete annihilation of Israel. Hitler would be proud.
You are saying the pres Obama said about Hitler? What.
Give it up, Hitler is not a response to the ? Obama is a weak president he can't even say Muslim Terrorist. Can you
Can we just drop the back and forth. Good lord you are annoying. If you do not comprehend my point then make one of your one and move on. It is like you have OCD and must belittle and pester people into submission of your thoughts. Grow up.
The good image of Islam is more important than criticizing a bad ideology that calls for death to homosexuals, polytheists, atheists and those who won't live per Islamic mandates.
We see the same ideas regarding these groups in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. Luckily, however, terrorists calling themselves Christians aren't acting on these ideas. And thank God for that!
Secularists look at Christians as a potential Taliban, while ignoring the real Taliban/ISIS/Al Shabab/Boko Haram/Aceh province/Iran and Saudi shariah law on a national level
So JS, George W, Bush, who claimed to be born again, wasn't Christian when he allowed http://hubpages.com/politics/Why-And-Ho … Overthrown to happen?
Some prophet, most of the Muslim Terrorism is because Mohammad didn't pick his successor before he died. Now, they fight to see who he should have picked,. This has been going on for centuries.
As far as what Obama means on anything, I have no idea.
As far as slander, I don't think that has anything to do with the Mohammad. Christians can quote the bible and get what ever they want to make their point and point of view. So the same must be true of those that quote the Koran.
Hi PhoenixV! How's it going?
1. I am sure that I could not find ten non-Arabs and non-Muslims---other than scholars---in the United States of America, including myself, who have ever even read the Koran to know what is actually in it.
2. I am also sure that what I think I "know" about its "ideology" comes from snippets of television spots on various "news" programs.
3. If we start from a place of honesty, in admitting what we do not know, we can ask the question, as I will of you, PhoenixV: Do you think the future should belong to those that slander the Prophet of Islam?
4. Do you believe that the "slander" President Obama wishes to avoid, is, for people with your viewpoint, "simply the truth"?
5. What exactly is this "truth" that you believe the President of avoiding?
