What specific reasons do 30% of the voting public give for continuing to support Trump?

Trump is a political train wreck. He has never filled his own cabinet, and now most of his advisors have quit or been fired. He does not appear to have any inkling of running a country. He has made a hot mess of just about every American value. What qualities remain to his base? What do they see happening if Trump continues his failing administratiom?

Okay, the only reason I can think of are several...ONE...they watch FOX. TWO, They may be idiots...THREE...America is so out of touch with the ideals of Christianity that they have no moral soul left. FOUR...people in America are idiots...see number two. FIVE...they, too, are white supremacists who wish to rule. SIX...They are simply blind, foolish and mislead.

The question has become...when does America use common sense once more?

It is speculation but I think the 34% supporters are:
    1. Neo-nazis,
    2. People who find it difficult to admit that they made a wrong choice.( the more publically outspoken an opinion the more difficult it is to say, I made a mistake. It is loosing your face). This is the biggest group, people stick to their opinion and find it difficult to re-evaluate their opinion. They stick with their first choice. A nobel thing sometimes but rigid and catastrophic in most situations in life. You stick with a partner, even if he/she hits you and mistreats you.

    3. Conspiracy theory lovers, people who don't believe in the moon landing.
People who are anti reason and find science and education suspicious.
    4. People who don't follow the news
    5. People who believe in Trump as if he was the second coming. With an almost religious fanaticism. You do not need a reason to believe in the resurrection, You blindly follow the messiah.
It would be a really interesting question for a poll. And it would tell a lot about human behaviour. Why do people follow a leader blindly?

Great input by the other commenters ~ Here's my "Brief & Succinct" Answer ~

First of all Mr. Trump "Sealed his Political DOOM" long ago in an almost INFINITE number of Deplorable ways, but the NIGHMARISH "Virginia Incident" which any rational individual could conclude Mr. Trump Incited, ENCOURAGED & thereafter actually "Tacitly CONDONED" was essentially his FINAL "Reprehensible / TREASONOUS Act" of Blatant ANTI-American sentiment, despite Mr. Bannon's Mysterious DISAPPEARANCE ~

The WORLD has had ENOUGH of this Psychologically ENCUMBERED, Incompetent Traitor while OUR Own Military Generals & ADMIRALs have ABANDONED him, and that means he's DONE ~ He actually might be GONE Before the "Criminal INVESTIGATION" which appears to be CLOSING in on his Campaign & Family, concludes ~ Let us PRAY he's REMOVED from OUR White House before "EVIL" finds a Permanent Home ~

WHY do a TINY yet DIMINISHING number of individuals still support this Dangerously Unhinged wanna' be DICTATOR? Here's my 4 Categories of "Trump Supporters" ~

    1. DUMB & Gullible ~ SORRY, but P.T. Barnum reportedly said "There's a SUCKER Born every Minute" and UNFORTUNATELY, it's TRUE however, a LUCID, Rational Intelligent person is "BORN every Second" ~

    2. RACISTs ~ They have "VOTING Rights" just like everyone else in the USA & can support whomever they believe will SERVE their Best Interests ~

    3. FILTHY Rich Individuals / Corporations Looking for MASSIVE Corporate Welfare in the form of "Garagntuan TAX Cuts" ~ However, we are actually seeing signs that even some X-Tremely WEALTHY Individuals are ABANDONING Mr. Trump ~ Apparently, some do still have a "Heart, Soul & CONSCIENCE" ~

    4. Practical JOKERs Perpetrating a Dangerous "Twisted INTERNET Hoax" ~ At this point, I believe many ONLINE Trump Supporters are doing it for "SPORT" to see is they can actually convince another individual that by "Defending the INDEFENSIBLE", they're right ~ "Ridiculous, ABNORMAL & an EXERCISE in Stupidity" ~

I am just trying to figure out what has changed in my life since January. Hmmm. Nothing. The swamp is intact, so his ratings are down.
At best Neo-Nazis and KKK members make up 200 thousand or so out of over 300 million - a Base?

I'd include the enabling congressional republicans who are using Trump to further their own agenda.  Fine line they walk though.  How long will they tolerate his insanity?

We'd Assume with Eric's CASUALLY Tacit Support of NAZIs, not a soul within his extended family ever served in WW2 ~ He doesn't seem 2 UNDERSTAND 10 Nazis Lurking in the USA is 10 to many & "Der Donald" has Hired "SEWER Scum" versus a Swamp

If Hillary had won the election and done a bad job, a large part of her supporters would also keep supporting her no matter what.

When it comes to politics and religion, quite a few people defend and rational their choices, even to the point of latching on to propaganda as truth.

I used to vote 100% of the time for every candidate of a single party. Then I finally opened my mind and started voting for the best candidate of either party. It was a very freeing experience. It also showed me why many people are so committed to Trump.

I didn't ask about Hillary or any other candidate. Quit making excuses for your choices, you might learn a few things about Trump.

And somehow the economy has added over a million jobs, the stock market at records day after day, and the North Korean bad boy is pouting at home - how do you call any of this a sign of "failing"?  Please tell us how Trump has changed any "American Value" - and don't blame him for things he didn't do, like the Charlottesville rally

Obama voters also often mentioned how many jobs were added and the record breaking stock market returns and yet millions of people believed the country was headed in the wrong direction.
Clearly it's about hating their policies and stances!

Pulling out of the climate change deal is a diplomatic mistake of the first order. All the tech companies have deserted him.
The political distance between Europe and the US has never been so big. The US lost a partner in the EU.

Ha ha ha - all blame goes to a Republican and all praise to a Democrat on this feed - gotta love the bias - when's your next book burning?

I don't care much about republican or democrat. it's just a label. but I do care about the situation were the US is looking inward, alienating from it's traditional allies. Instead of cooperation Trump seeks conflict, with everybody.

I don't blame Trump for the rally anymore than I give him credit for creating 1 million jobs.  He's a con man. He is a serial liar.

I believe 30% of voters simply HATE the status quo!
It's the reason they chose a (non politician) to be president.
They'd rather watch a train wreck than return to establishment politics. They want to shake things up and return to the past.

I have a different take on this as follows,

    1) He gets away with a lot which makes people who can't, jealous but secretly admire him.
    2) He hits back hard when criticized and those who cannot like this quality and want to imbibe it.
    3) He does not sugar coat his words which tells those 30% that he is basically an honest fellow.
    4) These 30% resent the holier than thou viewpoint of the left liberal media and see Trump as the underdog.

Eventually, his words and "honesty" will be his undoing. I am truly amazed at the things his folowers believe is truth, when it is not. But like PT barnum says, there is a sucker born every minute.

How anyone could view Trump as an underdog is beyond me.  Trump would walk over any one of the 30% who are his base to get to the bathroom.  He doesn't care about anyone but Donald Trump...and maybe Ivanka.

It seems that many Veterans-both prior servers and those currently serving-support Trump.  I actually saw him speak at Reno this past week and one of the things he did there was sign the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act.  What this act is to do is to decrease the wait time for when Veterans file claims.  Right now my husband has an open claim that has been on file for well over 10 years-which he has been denied even after appealing.  Well we will see if this act helps him get the help he needs.

The speech was good.  This is the link if you are interested:
