The three publicly debated funding for the border wall. It was funny to watch Chuck provoke Don into owning a government shutdown. It was amusing to see Nancy refuse to let Don paint her as weak.

Remember, Don promised Mexico would pay tor the wall. Now, he wants $5 billion for it. Most  border experts do not consider a border wall to be cost effective. True fiscal conservatives should oppose it for that reason alone. Most Americans would rather Don compromise on the wall than stand firm and shut down the government.

The wall. Hmm. I was opposed at the outset because there are so many other ways to enter illegally and we've seen plenty of footage of people crawling under it. At this juncture I'd settle for a unified agreement between the Democrats and Republicans on policy on illegals. This 'sneak on in and we'll block ICE from holding you accountable for the crime' is wearing thin.

But, I saw nothing overly wrong with Trump saying he'd take responsibility. It's refreshing for a politician to say that, as opposed to the usual shuffling and sidestepping.

I agree we need a bipartisan agreement. Unfortunately, Trump opposed a major bipartisan agreement.

If I remember correctly, that bill didn't do anything to ensure the problem it was addressing wouldn't simply happen again. We need a fix, not a bandaid.

Now, Trump has no choice, either he works with the opposition party or find himself on his keister.

How do you "work with" an opposition that refuses anything but their own plans and goals?

That's what liberals and moderates would like to know.

And everyone else in the country.  Doubly so as they next reject anything that they don't like as completely useless.

Do you mean the repubs, dems or both?

Both.  Is there any doubt of that?  Our legislators have forgotten what "compromise" means and what it means/takes to actually work together to find solutions acceptable to all if not perfect to anyone.

Specifically, in the particular instance however, the reference is to the Democrats that will compromise not an inch of border wall.  Nor will they do anything at all that stands a chance of substantially limiting illegal travel across that same border.

Why is it always the Democrats that are required to compromise, has Trump and the Republicans ever reciprocated?

Great!  Let's see a compromise offer from Dem's on building the wall.  Maybe 3B rather than the 5B requested, and see if it is accepted.

Instead we get a declaration that there will be not a single inch of wall built.  Compromise, Democrat style.

So how does the Don take responsibility? I see too many government officials (and big corporate ones, too) say they take responsibility for some big blunder, but that's where it ends. Nothing happens and their lives go on as if they'd never committed the blunder, even when lives are at stake.

"Most Americans would rather Don compromise on the wall than stand firm and shut down the government."

"Compromise" does not mean "No, you can't have a wall.  Not a single foot of it, whether concrete, electronic or other".
