Inside the GM plant where nooses and 'whites-only' signs hung

A workplace where people declared bathrooms were for "whites only," where black supervisors were denounced as "boy" and ignored by their subordinates, where black employees were called "monkey," or told to "go back to Africa."

A workplace where black employees were warned a white colleague's "daddy" was in the Ku Klux Klan. Where white workers wore shirts with Nazi symbols underneath their coveralls.

    In Ohio.

    In 2018.

    Wow. You should read this.
    https://edition.cnn.com/2019/01/16/us/g … index.html

"There was never a black person who was lynched that didn't deserve it."

    Btw, sounds familiar. roll

Earl, who is white, has worked for the plant for 34 years. He told CNN there could be "bad actors" like there can be anywhere, but there was no widespread intentional racism.

"Do I believe people are a little too sensitive these days? Absolutely," he said. "What passed 20 years ago doesn't pass today."

"You can't say the things you used to say off the cuff. It doesn't excuse it, but it's not racially motivated statements," he added.

    "It's just bad judgment."

Stirring up trouble again, Island Bites?

Heaven forbid that I get accused of pulling the "race card" once again...

I read the article, reminded me of the dirty tricks pulled by Wells Fargo targeting minority groups for subprime loans a few years ago.

While I always try to consider that this behavior revealed in the article is not more wide spread, I struggle.

General Motors is a major US corporation, how does incidents like this stay below the radar?

I become irritated with all the bromide statements from MAJOR corporate entities providing either "no comment" or idle banter meant for public consumption.

What would possess the Anglo employees to give their black supervisors such a hard time. Where does all the arrogance and resentment come from?

I am to believe that all of this is reflects an isolated incident? I don't know?

Are these the working class Fred Flintstone type rock quarry workers that make so large a portion of Trump's support?

Wow, I cannot believe GM allowed that to go on.

Agree. But it's sad that our surprise is that and not that in 2018 there's still so many racists and how embolden they've gotten.

Yes, both are shocking, but I'm rarely surprised about racism and sexism from individuals. This case is particularly horrifying  because it was so pervasive, yet repeatedly excused and tolerated by upper management and apparently all the way to the top. That's really shocking in this day and age. And very scary!
