Is it ever possible to truly change somebodies mind?

Western politics is more polarised than ever  see: Brexit, Trump etc...

We've seen hours of debates, and speeches, and protests from different sides in these discussions, but is it ever actually possible to change somebodies mind and flip them from on side to the other?

If somebody is so 100% commited to their belief (Pro/Anti Brexit) for example, does it ever matter what somebody from the opposite side says?

Have you seen examples of this? Do you believe somebody could change your mind on a key issue you feel strongly about?

It is possible, but I will need overwhelming evidence supporting the contrary position.

Vladimir Putin's Brexit scheme to weaken the European Union and NATO will never happen Thank God, and many Trump Voters have already changed their minds and continue to regret their decision to vote for him, the evidence is in the last midterm elections where Progressive Democrats WON by a record breaking vote total and FLIPPED many red republican districts back over to the good, righteous progressive democratic side:

This is a very good question.  I believe once we realize that the elite are globalists and there is a new world order agenda, we will return to saner politics. Right now the Republicans and the Democrats have been bought by the $$$$$ of the elite who have a plan to install their one world government.

Step two ... (one has already taken place,) is to create world wide chaos. We are on the brink of witnessing chaos in our country and other countries as well.

I have changed my mind on a few big issues, but not as the result of listening to just one person or one line of thinking. Instead, it was due to learning more about them, looking at facts, and thinking hard about their meaning and consequences. I used to support the death penalty, but have opposed it now for about 30 years. In the past ten years or so, I became supportive of decriminalizing all drug use.

So, yes, it happens, but I doubt it happens very often in the midst of debate.

I believe we must put a halt to the chaos by tuning into common sense. Common sense is what is common to all. Can we find what is common to all?

Freedom for the individual. Yearning for freedom for oneself, loved ones and fellow humans. The joy of life is universal and manifests within each one of us in freedom and liberty.

In tyranny and restriction, joy of life cannot manifest or be felt.

People were designed for freedom. Its in our genetic codes.

If we loose freedom (within boundaries of love, logic and common sense,) we lose joy of life.

I think it is possible. Because I believe we use similar criteria in order to choose our sides. There have to be things outside of that stand influencing our decisions. Like immigration in the United States. Most everyone is against wide open borders. Most everyone wants a fair and equitable policy. But, we stand in opposite camps. I think the why comes down to several questions one may not ask themself, may not fully understand the answers to. If we got into the real meat, instead of arguing over labels most could probably agree. Although, since politicians refuse to attempt that we will probably remain in separate camps.

I think it would depend on the person and the issue. I can see some folks so set on their perspective that additional information would have no effect, and I can see some issues, (like abortion), that are such bedrock perspectives that no argument would be persuasive.

Otherwise, I would say that any reasonable person may be persuaded to change their mind if it can be shown their perspective is mistaken.

I would also say there are probably about two dozen of us reasonable folks left. ;-)
