Judge voids Paul Manafort plea deal, says he 'intentionally' lied to the FBI, special counsel and grand jury

Paul Manafort, President Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, lied to special counsel Robert Mueller, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson said that Manafort "intentionally made multiple false statements to the FBI, the (office of special counsel) and the grand jury concerning matters that were material to the investigation."

    Why so confident? Thoughts?

I don't know if Paul is confident or resigned, IB. This is only one of the investigations against him and he's facing at least 10 years in prison. There's also the meeting with the Russian operative at the cigar club where they arrived and departed using separate entrances and exits.

It's reported he hardly looks like himself and is suffering from gout and other ailments. I'd hate to be him with the only possible hope being a pardon from the most self centered person in the world.

What does it really accomplish to put a 70 yr. old man in prison for the rest of his life? There really should be a more sensible and practical way to deal with people who break the law. Letting them rot away in prison doesn't solve anything and costs the taxpayers a lot of money. The only situation I can understand is if the crime is particularly heinous.

Haven't a clue (or opinion) as to what Manafort will or should receive.

But WILL say that it is absolutely necessary that everyone be treated the same.  Age (or health) should never be a consideration in applying a sentence, with the possible exception of someone already on death's bed.  Terminal cancer with a projection of 6 months, maybe, to consider clemency.

Hey, IB, this is usually a United State affair. As a Nigerian, I do not have enough back ground to the issue. But I will like to remind you to realized that old men knows that they time on this side of the planet earth is over. At 70, he may died within a week or two in jail. He knows he can even be pardon. His confidence resolved around this two points. Thank you.

Trump cannot pardon Manafort for any convictions made by the state. He's toast...stale toast at that.

Hi, Randy, then sending Manafort to prison to rot and die is the answer? I think a pardon is necessary. Thank you.

Are you saying he should get away with his crimes because of his age? If not, why do you believe a pardon is necessary?

Okay, do you want to see the old man disgraced? I do not support crimes. He needs a presidential pardon, like a house arrest all the remaining days of his life. Thank you.

Ex-Trump campaign boss Paul Manafort ‘repeatedly and brazenly’ broke the law, special counsel Mueller says

Former Trump campaign boss Paul Manafort “repeatedly and brazenly” broke the law, special counsel Robert Mueller said in a court filing unsealed Saturday pertaining to two charges of conspiracy Manafort pleaded guilty to last year. But that plea deal collapsed after a judge ruled Manafort intentionally lied to Mueller's office, the FBI and the grand jury.

“The crimes he engaged in while on bail were not minor; they went to the heart of the criminal justice system,” Mueller wrote in a sentencing memorandum in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C.

In the document, Mueller said that federal sentencing guidelines suggest Manafort get between 17 and nearly 22 years of incarceration when he is sentenced in the D.C. court on March 13.
