In telling the story of a ‘historic moment’, Rachel Lears followed four female Democrats, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, during the 2018 midterms.

“I started this process working with the organizations Brand New Congress and Justice Democrats to get in contact with the people that they were considering supporting,” Lears tells the Guardian. “They were recruiting people, and some of our conversations started before the candidates had even launched their campaign. Each of them saw the value in telling their story even before they knew what the story was going to be.”

She could not have possibly anticipated AOC fever, the groundswell of support that landed the then 28-year-old on magazine covers and talkshows. As Ocasio-Cortez’s star continued to rise, Lears found herself at the center of something big and vital and thrilling: a real-life underdog story. Getting in on the ground floor afforded the director a uniquely advantageous position for chronicling the seedlings of a revolution.

“The purpose of the documentary is not to create a platform for the politicians,” Lears explains. “The purpose is to tell a story about a historic moment, and what it was like for the people inside it, and how the politically impossible becomes possible. We maintained strict editorial independence, we got all our funding through non-profit sources, we didn’t share any footage with the candidates for their own promotional purposes. No conflicts of interest. There was a big red line in the sand, to mix a metaphor.”

Ocasio-Cortez is the new face of politics.  She wants to serve her constituents.  Besides that, she wants to return politics to its humanitarian roots.  As a person of color, she understands the gross inequality that people of color in America has undergone & is continuing to undergo.  She is concerned about the socioeconomically disenfranchised in American society.  She wants to implement programs that will totally equalize America socioeconomically.  Ocasio-Cortez is the new blood in politics.

Although I strongly disagree with many of her political ideas, I think there is a lot to like about and be hopeful for, AOC's "historic moment" story. I particularly like that she beat a mutli-term incumbent that appears to have arrogantly dismissed her.

I'm kind of with you here, GA. I find some of her ideas to be a little too socialistic even for a Democrat, but I admire her courage and the fact that people are having to take her seriously.

I have jumped on her for her political views MizBejabbers. I think she is--to this point--naive of the reality of life, but, I really like that she was an ordinary non-political person that beat an overly smug incumbent.

Three cheers for that. Now, if she can just hold on to her anchor and resist her party's machinations and continue following the path that she believes in, (even if I think it is a wrong path).

We need a lot more "AOC" upsets in both parties.

    is to see it.

and stop thinking we need to change it.

embrace human nature. embrace our goodness
    embrace our greatness as humans

    and behave accordingly!

They're all trash. The two Muslims and the idiot from Brooklyn will not be around for long. What's great about them is they're going to help get Trump re-elected, and for this I will truly be thankful to them, while also having less respect for them than the common crack head.

The Guardian is a garbage tabloid. Everyone knows this.

I've never read the Guardian because it's a Brit newspaper, but I did read this rag that you posted. I think it is a piece of Russian propaganda, or it is Conservative satire bullshit. Either way, you should be ashamed of posting such a piece of propaganda and trying to pass it off as a legitimate news source. "Abortion after birth" should have tipped off any intelligent person, but I'm not sure you fit into that category after posting this as anything but "fake news."

He calls women trash and has previously glorified Trump's pu$$y grabbing.

        A class act, this one.

Humpf, a real piece of work. I should have known he has no shame.
