The emails I have received in relation to my Hub yesterday "The Day My Uncle Was Murdered" suggest that people are shocked at the deatail, should we tone down the details of our life experiences..............

just noticed this and on my way to read your hub now-- but offhand think that sharing one's personal truth with honesty is more important than worrying about the tender feelings of the easily shockable-- your story might help somebody else with a murdered relative who can relate to you for example.  I suppose I am naive-- but I believe in the power of truth and that we are as sick as our secrets-- so more power to you

      Just keep it like that.

mtsi, I would have thought so, but I wonder if people are shocked by graphic detail should it be toned down..

I think it should be clear at the top of a hub if it is going to be graphic.  These sites are accessible to all people, including kids.

pylos26, perhaps some people are too sensitive for graphic detail is that possible ?

sorry it i seemed rude observer...it was just the fact that watered down versions of details would make your story lacking.

      again...sorry i was rude.

Maybe put a disclaimer at the top that there is going to be graphic details, then people can choose whether to read on or not?  Other people's opinions shouldn't stop you writing the way you want to, how you express yourself is your choice.  But more contentious topics will provoke a stronger response from others.

      A disclaimer would be enough.
You should write the way you like. I read the hub. Didn't leave a comment as ,no words could describe my feelings.
It was a very good hub !

"too sensitive"?...and deny the people issues of current events?

Irish, I can whole heartedly tell you to NOT TONE IT DOWN!

If people are shocked by what they read, well they could ahve stopped reading at any time.  The people who complain about writing such as yours made an actual choice to read it all, and then complain about it.

Whiners such as this do not deserve teh time of day, you are not forcing the material down their throats. To each email you get regarding this, you should point out that it was their choice to read your article.

It is people like that, who love to complain and cause trouble, who have stifled human advancement for millenia.

I have just finished reading your hub and am without the words to leave a comment but not because of shock but because I am greatly humbled by what you experienced.

As a writer, one should write honestly, even if that includes certain elements that may shock a reader.  The reader has a choice to continue reading or to stop.  No one can force a reader to finish what he/she has begun.

Im actually shocked that you are getting that many emails.

It is a great hub and very well written.

The thing is it is an honest portrayal of life and writing it here was great.

Its a sad fact that these things happen but ignoring them wont make them go away.

Just ignore the emails and keep writing about anything you want as long as you follow TOS

I think the people who were shocked should have gotten a clue from the title.  They shouldn't expect murder to be pretty and there was nothing gory about the explicitness.  Let them get shocked and be aware that not everything in life is puppies and cupcakes.

I looked at your hub and I didn't think there was anything too graphic in it. It was sad, but didn't include anything very graphic. Not even close.

I say don't worry about it. I can't imagine what people were emailing about.

thanks Sara, I suppose its hard to judge peoples reactions, depends on what they have been through....

Irish I wouldn't change a thing. You had to say what you felt to say and honestly it is not too gory. It is a very touching story, I feel for you possum.

Thanks Blonde but I though it was best to ask for peoples opinion just in case I was stepping over some un-written line - I am glad people emailed me to voice their concern - I am not criticising them I just wondered If I should tone down...
