What do you think of President Trump's airstrike resulting in the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani?

Hey there, KC, welcome to the fracas.

As for the air strike, while this fellow might have well derserved it, the blowback that would result in the region against America and American interests may prove that we may have been better off had he been preserved alive rather than currently dead.

We need to use a little judgment and think about these things before we act, mind over muscle?

Whatever advantage we may have militarily is well off set by the fact that we are operating Iran's backyard.

Wonder of the spouses, parents, children and siblings of the hundreds of American dead he has arranged for would agree that it might be better to leave him alive to continue producing American corpses.  What do you think?

I actually thought it was refreshing to have a strong response to terrorists, rather than the attitude of pacifying them. If that "you can do nothing" was actually stated, it appears to have been a reference to the hostages situation in the early 1980s.

The Pentagon has decided that a tally of civilian casualties as a result of our war on terror is not to be made available, convienient..... How many dead bodies did we leave as part of our military forays into these foreign lands, civilians (non combatants). It is easy to ignore as they are just insignificant dusky hued people caught in the crossfire, isn't it?

You don't like American corpses, does the prospect of many more appeal to you?

These people are not constrained to observe a Geneva Convention or anything else. We have thousands of troops over there, that are vulnerable.

Sometimes to get to your goal use of  a scalpel is preferred over a meatax to avoid consequences that can only be described as counterproductive.

But you have to have sufficient wisdom and discernment to know how and where to apply it, such in recent times seems sorely lacking.

A targeted drone strike on a caravan target vs. a missile barrage against an airport target isn't considered as using a scalpal vs. a meat ax? Are you talking about microsurgery Cred? The drone attack seems scalpel-like to me.

Or are you talking about a different type of "wisdom and discernment"?

"I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

Admiral Yamamoto, architect of the attack on Pearl Harbor, 1941

GA, have we done something similar with the attack and death of Soleimani, so prominent a figure within the Iranian government?

This is the type of wisdom and discernment I speak of. Can we really afford to further stoke the fires of what is already a tinderbox?

So, what is the ultimate goal of our being in the region, we have to be careful about unduly aggravating an adversary on their own stomping grounds and halfway around the world relative to the U.S.
