At his final press conference at the Justice Department, Attorney General William Barr said he sees no reason to appoint a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden.

Mr Barr said that he has "not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave."

Mr Biden is currently the subject of a federal criminal investigation regarding his taxes.

The attorney general resigned last week and will step down on Wednesday.

He also said that he sees no reason for a special counsel to investigate the election, sees no basis for the federal government to seize voting machines, and sided with secretary of state Mike Pompeo over the president by saying the massive hack of government computers was the work of the Russians.

It seems Barr is not supportive of his boss's lies and propaganda. Who is left to support Trump  in his bid to lie his way into remaining president? Rudy G., Sidney P. And Michael Flynn, a motley crew if there ever was one.

Just the over 73 millions that voted for him in the first place, or at least a sizable hunk of same

What? Say it ain't so, Joe.

Are you talking about the same AG Barr that was claimed to be the president's personal lawyer and lapdog?  *snicker, snicker*

I have at least a couple of years of fun coming watching the Right's and Left's arguments mimic each other's past four year's positions. I especially like the current claims of Pres.-elect Biden's illegitimate election and the 'he's not my president' assertions.

Lol, the lackey is looking forward to his next move and attempting to salvage a shred of credibility. In my opinion, of course.

Well, we will good-naturedly have to disagree. I never thought AG Barr was what many Liberal folks claimed him to be. I never found impropriety in his actions—just because those actions supported a Trump agenda.

My opinion of him felt supported when it became known that he knew about the Delaware Hunter Biden investigation before the election, yet followed legal cannons and never made his knowledge public. I am sure that didn't sit well with President Trump, but it seemed to be to his credit to my mind.

I can see your perspective and almost agree with it. My liberal bias just won't quite let me, though. big_smile

Full statement  AG Barr offered in regard to not calling for a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden ---

"I think to the extent that there's an investigation, I think that it's being handled responsibly and professionally,"  "To this point, I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave."

It would appear he feels the investigation is in good hands. AG Barr has a good reputation for making fair prudent decisions IMO.

Keep in mind, this is a criminal investigation and will continue, and he is well aware of that. The FBI has been investigating Hunter for two years. As well as the Federal prosecutors in Delaware,  that are working with the IRS Criminal Investigation agency and the FBI, and have taking overt steps such as issuing subpoenas and seeking interviews, with persons with knowledge. We know at this point there have been no charges. Lot's of unsubstantiated leaks.  I think Barr feels all is being done as he said in a proffessional manner.

Hard to really answer your question in regards to who is left to support Trump. I have no idea at this point. I do believe he has a very large base of supporters, that feel the election was rigged, and are upset, and disappointed at the outcome of the election.

I am aware that the Trump cult members still believe Biden stole the election. I was referring to people in his circle who might have some say or influence over what Trump does next  with regard to his propaganda campaign to convince as many as possible that he was robbed.

I live in Trump country and, as I type this, they are out in force with their AR-15s, MAGA hats and  "Stop the Steal" signs. They have actually cracked the doors of our state capitol building, shouting  "Get a Rope" and "Flush Brown Down" (referring to our Governor Kate Brown).  It seems they have mushed their various imagined grievances into one giant ball of fury.

I am not sure he ever listened to anyone in his close circle of those he picked up while president. He seems to be looking to Republicans in Congress to try to support his fight. He just had a conference with several  Congressmen in the Oval this evening. Will be interesting to see if there are any tweets or statements that come out of the meeting.

It sounds as if many are ready to take to the streets.  That is disappointing, and I hope if this occurs Trump speaks up and makes every attempt to calm those that might cause violence. Violence certainly won't solve anything.

I have never witnessed Trump being this quite. A bit unsettling.

Maybe those supporters would do well to watch OAN, Newsmax, and Fox as they retract their stories about voter fraud with regard to voting machines.

Apparently, all those stories were made up and now those "news" organizations are being forced to admit it.

As I have stated networks like CNN MSNBC, Fox, etc promote sensationalism, If comes, maybe,  not the truth. One could call it fake news...

I completely agree. Sensationalism is a perfect word. I quite frankly watch CNN and am sickened by how their anchors interject their personal opinions into the so-called news. Sadly, I think that's what we all want.

However, you are not addressing the point. The point is that the manipulation of the voting machines is an untrue story with no factual basis and those "news" organizations knew it when they ran those stories. Now something like 75% of Republicans believe them to be true.

I haven't seen anything saying that manipulation (of ballot machines) happened.  I have seen experts (or at least people presented as experts) showing how it is possible, and how the timeline of votes counted was unlikely without such manipulation.  Personally, I found their "unlikely" to be without much backup as the votes then being counted were expected to be just what they were; highly slanted towards Biden.
