Has social media ruined the human connection in society?

For those of you who don't know, Gina Carano was fired by Lucasfilm over controversy over her Twitter page not having the right pronouns to support the Trans community, and for her alleged controversial tweets.  Look, I'm not here to discuss why she was fired, or whether or not, it was justified; hence why I'm not going to go into it for the sake of this conversation.

However, what I find most disturbing is the fact that Lucasfilm didn't even tell her that she was fired.  She had to find out from Twitter that she was fired.

And from talking to various people, one person told me how their ex didn't even have the guts to break up with them to their face. And instead elected to do it through a video posted on Facebook for all their friends and family to see, while changing their status.  I'm dead serious.  So let me get this straight, this person didn't have the guts to tell their lover that they wanted to break up to their face?  Yet they had zero problem posting a video to break up with them on social media for everyone they knew to see, and didn't tell their lover about it, as they just expected them to find it on Facebook?

Yeah, this just screams wrong on all sorts of levels honestly, but this got me thinking.   Is social media ruining our society?   It is taking away the human connection we used to have as human beings?  And what can we do to regain the human connection back?  Please discuss.

    It is a shallow thing.
If it wasn't for social media I would be using snail mail and having a much deeper connection to my friends from childhood, for example. Instead we merely observe each others' posts and if we do connect on say, Facebook, it is not for long and it seems almost imaginary, instead of real.

People are not sending heartfelt cards to each other anymore either. Everything is done on the internet or cell phone and we have become very distant from our loved ones and friends because of the impersonal ness of it all.

Ghosting is the worse: just left hanging after becoming somewhat addicted to someone's tech-responses.

    Bullying seems to be rampant.
Bragging and showing off is rampant.
Being entertaining is rampant and only makes others jealous.

Of course, there are some good things happening, but I'm focusing on the negative effects. Perhaps others will explain that we have gained more than lost, but I do think we have lost something real and soul quenching.

How to get deeper connections back? We won't. And we will all be come more automatic and automaton-like.
