As a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020, Biden pledged to repeal the Hyde Amendment, which has banned federal funding for abortions since 1977. It appears that  Joe Biden, who voted for that amendment back in 1977, can’t make up his mind on whether or not that’s a good thing.

NBC News published a history of Biden’s views on abortion rights and points out that early in his career, the former Delaware senator was a full-out anti-abortion zealot who supported measures as extreme as the one just passed in Alabama.

As a U.S. senator from Delaware, Biden voted against a 1977 compromise that allowed Medicaid to fund abortions that included exceptions for victims of rape and incest in addition to concerns for the life of the mother. While the rape and incest exceptions passed in that case, Biden voted in 1981 to again remove them, in what was the most far-reaching ban on federal funds ever enacted by Congress.

Biden also voted several times, including in 1983, to prohibit federal workers from using health insurance on abortion services, with the only exception being to save the life of the mother.

In that 1981 vote, he was one of just TWO Democratic senators from the Northeast, the other being George Mitchell of Maine, to vote to end federal funding for abortion for victims of rape and incest. Fellow Catholics Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts and Daniel Patrick Moynihan of New York as well as Democrats from other blue-leaning Northeastern states supported the exceptions. Biden voted in line with conservative Republicans like Jesse Helms of North Carolina and Democrats from red states like Robert Byrd of West Virginia.

As Senate Judiciary Committee chair in the 1980s and early 1990s, Biden also oversaw the confirmation of anti-abortion crusader Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court, and defended Thomas in September 1991 from pro-choice groups who charged that he would overturn Roe v. Wade. After the National Abortion Rights Action League uncovered a 1987 speech where Thomas had praised an anti-abortion article, Biden said that to cite the speech as proof of Thomas’ opposition to abortion was a “failure of logic” and said that he “did not find anywhere in the record where [Thomas] evidenced extreme views.” (Biden ultimately voted against Thomas’ confirmation.)

.Biden seemingly became more pro-choice possibly by necessity when becoming a candidate for president.   While campaigning at a Town Hall appearance in South Carolina, Biden was asked by an ACLU volunteer if he supported finally repealing the Hyde Amendment. Biden said yes—“It can’t stay”—a response that was posted by the official ACLU national Twitter account.

It would seem Biden is a true politician --- "Tell them  anything they want to hear"

But Joe, ya gotta keep your story straight, maybe flashcards?

There is this recent news of President Biden forming a corrupt bargain with Mich McConnell to appoint a right wing jurist for a judicial vacancy in Kentucky.

I will need to get more details, but I smell a rat. If Biden is playing games over this issue......, there is going to be hell to pay. That is what I deserve to think that any moderate Democrat would ever have conjones to do what is necessary to stop the right wing juggernaut.

A fellow by the name Chad Meredith

However, concerns still loom. HuffPost reported: "Meredith certainly fits the mold of Trump's court picks. He's a member of the Federalist Society, the conservative legal organization that funneled anti-abortion, anti-LGBTQ and anti-voting rights judicial nominees to Trump's White House for years. All six of the Supreme Court justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade are Federalist Society members, as were dozens of Trump's nominees to U.S. appeals courts."

"The comparisons between Meredith and Justices Thomas and Scalia are likely to intensify calls on Biden to abandon his plans to nominate him. Not only would such a pick run counter to Biden's much-touted record of putting forward diverse and progressive judicial nominees, but it would come on the heels of the Supreme Court gutting Roe v. Wade, a decision that breaks from 50 years of precedent and strips away the constitutional right to an abortion."

Yes, I read that...  I mean I think I have beaten this poor man until even I feel sorry for him. So, what can one think? Is he pro-life, pro-abortion, or just a vote-seeking politician? But hey, ya brought it up.

"Biden's perspective nomination comes just as the President is pledging to use everything within his power to fight for abortion rights in the wake of last week's US Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. With the federal constitutional right to an abortion eliminated, states will have to determine abortion rights unless Congress acts." CNN

Like I said we need two brand spanking new candidates in 2024.

I will admit when researching Biden in 2020, I dug deep. He is a real piece of work. He has a history of going whichever way the winds blow.

Do Trumpers really want to open this can of worms? Trump went back and forth. Biden is a devout Catholic for goodness sake. You think this is an easy issue for him.  And lies? Let me count the ways Trump lied/lies. Last count during his administration was in the thousands.

This thread is pointing out an incident that shows  Biden to be a  hypocrite.  He has been his entire career. It would seem "Bidunces" perhaps should at least be able to see his newly found stance on abortion. He certainly did think differently when he felt it was beneficial for this career., and know --- flip-flop.

"Biden is a devout Catholic " that would be your view. I don't consider him even to be a Christian. I see him as a man that will lie to suit his agenda.
