Looks like European officials are very dissatisfied with Joe Biden, and his administration. Looks like his policies are taking down Europe too... WEEEE

POLITICO --- Nine months after invading Ukraine, Vladimir Putin is beginning to fracture the West.

Top European officials are furious with Joe Biden’s administration and now accuse the Americans of making a fortune from the war, while EU countries suffer.

“The fact is, if you look at it soberly, the country that is most profiting from this war is the U.S. because they are selling more gas and at higher prices, and because they are selling more weapons,” one senior official told POLITICO.

The explosive comments — backed in public and private by officials, diplomats and ministers elsewhere — follow mounting anger in Europe over American subsidies that threaten to wreck European industry. The Kremlin is likely to welcome the poisoning of the atmosphere among Western allies.

“We are really at a historic juncture,” the senior EU official said, arguing that the double hit of trade disruption from U.S. subsidies and high energy prices risks turning public opinion against both the war effort and the transatlantic alliance. “America needs to realize that public opinion is shifting in many EU countries.”

Another top official, the EU’s chief diplomat Josep Borrell, called on Washington to respond to European concerns. “Americans — our friends — take decisions which have an economic impact on us,” he said in an interview with POLITICO.

The U.S. rejected Europe's complaints. “The rise in gas prices in Europe is caused by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and Putin's energy war against Europe, period," a spokesperson for Biden's National Security Council said. Exports of liquefied natural gas from the U.S. to Europe "increased dramatically and enabled Europe to diversify away from Russia," the NSC spokesperson said.

The biggest point of tension in recent weeks has been Biden’s green subsidies and taxes that Brussels says unfairly tilt trade away from the EU and threaten to destroy European industries. Despite formal objections from Europe, Washington has so far shown no sign of backing down.

At the same time, the disruption caused by Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is tipping European economies into recession, with inflation rocketing and a devastating squeeze on energy supplies threatening blackouts and rationing this winter.

As they attempt to reduce their reliance on Russian energy, EU countries are turning to gas from the U.S. instead — but the price Europeans pay is almost four times as high as the same fuel costs in America. Then there’s the likely surge in orders for American-made military kit as European armies run short after sending weapons to Ukraine.

It's all got too much for top officials in Brussels and other EU capitals. French President Emmanuel Macron said high U.S. gas prices were not “friendly” and Germany’s economy minister has called on Washington to show more “solidarity” and help reduce energy costs.

Ministers and diplomats based elsewhere in the bloc voiced frustration at the way Biden’s government simply ignores the impact of its domestic economic policies on European allies.

When EU leaders tackled Biden over high U.S. gas prices at the G20 meeting in Bali last week, the American president simply seemed unaware of the issue, according to the senior official quoted above. Other EU officials and diplomats agreed that American ignorance about the consequences for Europe was a major problem.

"The Europeans are discernibly frustrated about the lack of prior information and consultation," said David Kleimann of the Bruegel think tank.

Officials on both sides of the Atlantic recognize the risks that the increasingly toxic atmosphere will have for the Western alliance. The bickering is exactly what Putin would wish for, EU and U.S. diplomats agreed.

The growing dispute over Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) — a huge tax, climate and health care package — has put fears over a transatlantic trade war high on the political agenda again. EU trade ministers are due to discuss their response on Friday as officials in Brussels draw up plans for an emergency war chest of subsidies to save European industries from collapse.

"The Inflation Reduction Act is very worrying," said Dutch Trade Minister Liesje Schreinemacher. "The potential impact on the European economy is very big."

"The U.S. is following a domestic agenda, which is regrettably protectionist and discriminates against U.S. allies," said Tonino Picula, the European Parliament's lead person on the transatlantic relationship.

An American official stressed the price setting for European buyers of gas reflects private market decisions and is not the result of any U.S. government policy or action. "U.S. companies have been transparent and reliable suppliers of natural gas to Europe," the official said. Exporting capacity has also been limited by an accident in June that forced a key facility to shut down.

In most cases, the official added, the difference between the export and import prices doesn't go to U.S. LNG exporters, but to companies reselling the gas within the EU. The largest European holder of long-term U.S. gas contracts is France's TotalEnergies for example.

The NSC spokesperson quoted above added: "The increase in global LNG supplies, led by the United States, helped European allies and partners get storage levels to an encouraging place ahead of this winter, and we will continue to work with the EU, its members, and other European countries to ensure sufficient supplies will be available for winter and beyond.”

It’s not a new argument from the American side but it doesn’t seem to be convincing the Europeans. "The United States sells us its gas with a multiplier effect of four when it crosses the Atlantic," European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton said on French TV on Wednesday. "Of course the Americans are our allies ... but when something goes wrong it is necessary also between allies to say it."

Cheaper energy has quickly become a huge competitive advantage for American companies, too. Businesses are planning new investments in the U.S. or even relocating their existing businesses away from Europe to American factories. Just this week, chemical multinational Solvay announced it is choosing the U.S. over Europe for new investments, in the latest of a series of similar announcements from key EU industrial giants.

    Allies or not?
Despite the energy disagreements, it wasn't until Washington announced a $369 billion industrial subsidy scheme to support green industries under the Inflation Reduction Act that Brussels went into full-blown panic mode.

“The Inflation Reduction Act has changed everything," one EU diplomat said. "Is Washington still our ally or not?”

For Biden, the legislation is a historic climate achievement. "While we understand that some trading partners have concerns with how the [electric vehicle] tax credit provisions in the IRA will operate in practice with respect to their producers, we are committed to continuing to work with them to better understand and do what we can to address their concerns," the NSC spokesperson said. "This is not a zero-sum game. The IRA will grow the pie for clean energy investments, not split it."

But the EU sees that differently. An official from France’s foreign affairs ministry said the diagnosis is clear: These are "discriminatory subsidies that will distort competition.” French Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire this week even accused the U.S. of going down China's path of economic isolationism, urging Brussels to replicate such an approach. “Europe must not be the last of the Mohicans,” he said.

The EU is preparing its responses, such as a big subsidy push to prevent European industry from being wiped out by American rivals. "We are experiencing a creeping crisis of trust on trade issues in this relationship," said German MEP Reinhard Bütikofer.

"At some point, you have to assert yourself," said French MEP Marie-Pierre Vedrenne. "We are in a world of power struggles. When you arm-wrestle, if you are not muscular, if you are not prepared both physically and mentally, you lose.”

Behind the scenes, there is also growing irritation about the money flowing into the American defense sector.

The U.S. has by far been the largest provider of military aid to Ukraine, supplying more than $15.2 billion in weapons and equipment since the start of the war. The EU has so far provided about €8 billion of military equipment to Ukraine, according to Borrell.

According to one senior official from a European capital, restocking of some sophisticated weapons may take “years” because of problems in the supply chain and the production of chips. This has fueled fears that the U.S. defense industry can profit even more from the war.

The Pentagon is already developing a roadmap to speed up arms sales, as the pressure from allies to respond to greater demands for weapons and equipment grows.

Another EU diplomat argued that “the money they are making on weapons” could help Americans understand that making “all this cash on gas” might be “a bit too much.”

The diplomat argued that a discount on gas prices could help us to "keep united our public opinions” and to negotiate with third countries on gas supplies. “It’s not good, in terms of optics, to give the impression that your best ally is actually making huge profits out of your troubles,” the diplomat said.

So, is the US profiteering from the Ukraine/Russian war?  Has Joe's policies not only ruined the US economy but pretty much the world's economy?

The rumblings are loud and very clear.

It sounds like Europeans would like to see American citizens subsidize the sale of LNP to Europe.  That would not sit well with most people.

If Europeans don't like American companies making profits from the sale of weapons to Europe, they should be made in Europe.  Certainly we are not going to simply give them away.

One of the biggest problems is that Europeans don't seem able to distinguish private business from government.

Have you heard the final word on who destroyed the pipeline carrying natural gas from Russia to Europe?

No; not sure there is one yet?  Have the found those responsible?  Or just guessed?

All I have heard is a lot of guesses. If it was the US commander in chief ordering his soldiers to destroy the pipeline to stop Russian gas to Europe then those people freezing to death this year do have a lot to complain about. If it was not they can blame Putin and Zelensky.

So far it seems that anyone within 1,000 miles is suspect.  No facts, just accusations of whoever politics deems best (or worst, depending on your point of view).

One guess was that it could be the Russians. They have access to pipeline maintenance machines called 'pigs' that travel through the pipeline and are large enough to carry a large explosive package.

Why would the Russians destroy a pipeline that they use to sell oil? That makes no sense.

In order to put blame on the US and turn Europe against it.

There is NO legitimate reason to destroy that pipeline.  Only political ones, and those can be twisted and convoluted beyond belief.

I agree. However, don't be too sure if Biden does not flip, and start gifting weapons. I am not so sure he has not already done those in some fashion.

If they sell weapons, but then send the government money for everything else, arent they already doing that? (I saw this when I lived in north Africa. The USAID would spend $100 million on projects and then the government would buy $50 million in tanks.)

You have to wonder, is Biden really a puppet of the Chinese Communist Party?

He is crippling the American economy, the EU economy, alienating the Saudis, really, the core of the West's existence is being devastated by his decisions.

Makes one wonder. I feel very unsafe with Biden sitting in the White House. I truely do not believe he is running the show. This vast globalism, and socialist views ring of Obama, and his pal Kerry, not to mention Soros.
Tear it down to the ground, and make sure they break the will of all citizens.

It appears the EU is just not on board with losing its economy and watching the US get richer.

If you wanted to ruin the political, economical, and military power of America and its allies, so that China can ascend to a position of dominance globally, this is what it would look like.

Europe is being devastated due to it being cut off from Russia, its oil and natural gas, its fertilizer and various raw materials that the EU refines and turns into products they export.

America is also paying a price, supplying hundreds of billions in military equipment and supplies as well as monetary support in the hundreds of billions.

While doing this, Biden is also insulting, alienating and threatening the Saudis, from which our Petro-Dollar gains it legitimacy, once Saudi and OPEC stop trading oil in Dollars and start trading oil in Yuan it will be China that has the upper hand.

The only thing America has going for it is a larger military and Naval force, which it has worked diligently during Biden's Administration to make into a WOKE Safe Space for all the special people in our society while flushing out the best and brightest and most capable soldiers in the ranks.

Give Biden two more years, the job will be done, and America will be on its knees. As will the rest of its allies.

I agree, if he gets two more years, he will do major damage. It may just happen, but it is becoming obvious to me (*much due to the midterms) that at least half of our society has been totally brainwashed, and little can be done to get them to see what is truly going on.

Biden supported the presidential candidate here in Brazil that has stated that from here on in he will no longer follow the US lead since China is now our largest trading partner in the world. Does that make him a puppet of the Chinese Communist Party?

I do not think so. I think he is a confused octogenarian that has no place in holding an office that he was not qualified for even when he was 30 years younger and able to finish a speech or answer a question coherently. He might even believe the woke culture changes that he is promoting but I doubt it; he is most likely just doing what he thinks is gonig to get his party the most votes in the next election.

Do you know much about Hunter Biden's laptop?  According to Hunter Biden's business partner, Joe Biden was getting direct financial benefits from the communist Chinese government before and since becoming president.

Make no mistake, biden is a shrewd and greedy individual who will use anyone or anything to make money.  His past proves it.

"This is to say nothing of the links between the family members of such officials and the CCP and/or its affiliates and friends. On this point, President Biden himself, at the absolute minimum, faces the appearance of a major conflict of interest in the way of his closest relatives' financial dealings with CCP-linked individuals and entities—to say nothing of his own alleged stake.

The foregoing demonstrates that the CCP touches major centers of power and influence in America: The corporate world, the academy and the related worlds of public policy and "thought leadership." These are all feeders to government."

It would be nice if the Hunter Biden problems were buried by the FBI before the 2020 election. I just must laugh when I think back how CNN, MSN, WAPO, New York Times all claimed the laptop information was just "Russian misinformation. The Best was Politico ---   "Hunter Biden story is Russian disinformation, dozens of former intel officials say
More than 50 former intelligence officials signed a letter casting doubt on the provenance of a New York Post story on the former vice president's son."

"More than 50 former senior intelligence officials have signed on to a letter outlining their belief that the recent disclosure of emails allegedly belonging to Joe Biden’s son “has all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.”  https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/1 … nfo-430276

I mean 50 Intel officers stepped up and called the laptop
disinformation. It is so very clear to me that the left rags will say, and print anything, to push an agenda. Have you seen any apologies fro even one of these 50 Intel officers? NO

Fox, has covered every little crumb Hunter left, including his abandoned laptop. AS has the New York Post.  They are the outlet that posted the laptop emails. You know the ones the left rags called "Russian misinformation".

Question, why would anyone who supports an America first agenda care if the European Union is upset with us in any manner??  I mean isn't this your dream come true. I mean I thought the idea was to be less global?  At this point I think President Biden could serve up your agenda word for word and he would be absolutely excoriated for it. Let's face it at this point he has absolutely zero chance of gaining any points with anyone on the right and it's really sort of ridiculous. It's just tribalism and ridiculous labels that amount to no real critical thought into anything. Show me the D or show me the R and that's where I know where to line up. WASHINGTON — At a time when many Americans, and some of the legislators who represent them in Washington, are growing weary of supporting the defense of Ukraine, a new bipartisan House resolution to be introduced Tuesday calls on the United States to support an outright victory over Russia.

“We must not repeat the error of Sept. 1, 1939,” the resolution’s chief sponsor, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., told Yahoo News, referencing Adolf Hitler’s invasion of Poland, which followed desperate efforts to appease Nazi Germany and prevent a second world war.

Notably, the resolution, which requires review from the House Foreign Affairs Committee before a vote from the full chamber, “affirms that it is the policy of the United States to see Ukraine victorious against the invasion and restored to its internationally recognized 1991 borders.”
