    Will this trend continue?

"Democrats dealt another blow: third lawmaker leaves party, switches to Republican within a month
Louisiana state Rep. Jeremy LaCombe is the third Democrat in less than a month to switch parties

Democrats were dealt another blow from within their own ranks this week as yet another state lawmaker declared he was leaving the party.

According to a Monday report by The Advocate, a Louisiana-based newspaper, state Rep. Jeremy LaCombe announced he had left the Democratic Party and would be registering as a Republican.

The switches come as President Biden faces a near-record low approval rating among key groups, including women (43% now vs. 42% low), voters ages 45+ (41% vs. 39% low), suburban voters (41% vs. 39% low), rural voters (31% vs. 30% low) and Democrats (81% vs. 78% low) – Democratic men in particular (79% vs. 78% low), according to a recent Fox News poll.

Biden is also at a low mark of 41% approval among suburban women. "

Whichever party is involved, I don't understand how an officeholder elected to represent a party can switch during the term he/she was elected. Is that not fraud or election tampering or misrepresentation for the people who put that person in office?

Actually, this is something that happens all the time. Usually after a landslide election. democrats turn into Republicans and Republicans become democrats. What makes this unusual is it is happening before a major election and three in one month.  This is a non-election year which makes it unusual.

I wonder if this is an indication of anything. Politicians know more about what it happening with the political pulse of the country than any of us.

An honest, thoughtful voter does not vote for a party; they vote for a candidate that expresses their own views.  That one changes party affiliation half way through simply indicates that they feel they will get more votes from those individuals that DO vote a party line.  Or that they will more help in their specific plans from the other party; it is a foregone conclusion that politicians DO vote a party line.

Or possibly that they feel the "new" party more closely aligns with their own views, although I'm jaded enough to think that they don't really care about that.

Apparently the law says the voter elected the person not the party.

Does anyone remember Arlen Specter? He was a US Senator from Pennsylvania who switched from the Republican to the democrat party. His nickname was "Specter the defector." That's the most famous party switch that I can remember.
