Halfway through, I posted on Facebook, "J.D. Vance is a Rock Star"
I loved that America finally could see him, hear him, get to know him through a different lense. So much of what MSM does is take a bit from here, a bit from there, a bit from yonder, piece it all together and then present it as fact/the News. It is sad, but we all know they all do it!
I thought that J.D. was cool, calm, collected, confident and as sharp as as a tack. The clear winner. I don't think Tim Walz expected this from Vance, because he has only seen the different bits, pieced together, presented as fact! Walz was out of his league!
I liked that they both handled themselves with care and were gentlemen toward one another.

Now about the Moderators! They seemed angry, as if given detention rather than a sweet gig, so robotic with their back to you Norah --- time is up Senator --- back to you Margaret --- they were as stiff as boards.
Good thing J.D. was there or I would have tuned out. wink

The  "explain the lies you've told" section of the debate was interesting.

But the difference in stakes between. " I got the math wrong on a China trip 35 years ago". And " I called my running mate America's  Hitler and cultural heroin".  Was just insane.

Sadly, people are  too deep in their own biases they didn't notice the dichotomy.

Meanwhile we have Trump literally lying about Biden's response to the hurricane.

Do Republican voters care?  Nah. Lies for me, purity tests for thee.

I don't think that I mentioned Trump, but since you went there... (Surprise, Surprise!)
I, too, changed my mind about Trump. I was all in for Cruz, until Trump won me over. It sometimes  happens with people.

"Got the math wrong", nice try.
Walz has stated he was in Tiananmen Square during the Massacre --- when, in fact, he was not!

Vance did well, he stepped in it a couple of times... but he was fighting two aggressive hosts that attacked him more than Walz did IMO... so not bad overall.

But... None of it matters.  The majority of women make abortion their top issue, even as the world is engulfed in wars and our economy nears a serious downturn.

I would love to see the day when a moderator chooses to push back against these leftists who do believe that the 9th month isn't too late for abortion, but will NEVER say it out loud.

I will never be able to wrap my mind around women making abortion their top issue!

If Trump had never touched the abortion issue, left Roe vs Wade alone, everything would have been fine.

It would be different if the pro-life people had a solution for when a girl gets accidentally pregnant.  A child is such an important and crucial responsibility. A woman with a baby needs a husband and the support of everyone in her life, including her parents and parents-in-law. Her life becomes problematic to the point where the killing of her own child is preferable! No one wants to kill their offspring. But it is a gigantic/monumental commitment and responsibility.

How many girls do you know who got an abortion when there was just no way to take care of the child, her whole life ahead of her. How many unmarried couples choose to get an abortion because of the drugs they were taking the night they conceived? Abortion has saved many a young woman's life; not literally, but socially, psychologically and developmentally. (... and yes, sometimes literally.)

The issue is fraught with problems, such as the ones discussed by Walz in the debate. And Vance pretty much acknowledged that what he was saying was something to consider. But he also said the states had the right to set their own standards and rules. So, what about girls who have to travel to other states because their state says they cannot have an abortion at this time?

My usual snarky response would be to tell them to have sex in a more lenient state. But of course that is ridiculous. Society needs to get on board and help instill the practice of waiting until marriage to have sex.

Sorry, but that's the only way to prevent an unwanted, unprepared-for, maybe hard-to-love child. How many mothers had to marry the jerk against their will just to have the baby. It's nothing but a torturous marriage with little love. A cell mate instead of a soul mate.

How can the mother love her child as the child deserves to be loved?
All children deserve to be in a family where the mother and father want the child and are ready and willing to support, nurture and raise it into a robust person able to live its life in independence and joy ... and eventually help his or her parents when they are old and gray.

If those women could just accept that yes, the states, representing the people, need to determine what they believe. But they don't think that much.
        I guess.

Sorry Kathryn I can't agree. Abortion should have always been a state matter. A progresssive, radical 1973 Supreme Court had no business going there!
It was my experience in the mid 70's that abortion gave permission for girls to be promiscuous and they were. Innocence was lost! Abortion became birth control for them. It screwed up so many lives. I got the phone calls about the nightmares of seeing their dead babies faces. I had to talk friends  and family members out of suicide more than once. My brother admitted later in life that he tried to kill himself after his girlfriend not only broke up with him, but told him he would have been a Daddy, but she killed it. It was horrible how the U.S. changed with that decision.
          Abortion  is a horrible practice.

            Thank You for this perspective.
It is vital to see each other's reference points.
If that decision changed society and made us more promiscuous all I can say is OH DEAR! what a mistake.

The question is can we go back and fix this terrible thing?

By understanding what you have just explained, YES.
... just takes a little THINKING!

Trump nominated the judges as he promised...

One of the many campaign promises he kept, or tried to keep.

It is unfortunate that those judges in turn made the decisions they did regarding this issue... it will cost them this election... which will cost all of America much more... much... much more.

The thing about this election is it WILL result in a massive shift, one that will not be reversed, towards the UN and other International agencies having ultimate authority over America, from speech to property rights...

Their authority will supersede the President and the Constitution.

These changes have already been made, they have either passed in the UN/WEF or they will be passed in the next couple of weeks... PRIOR to the election in November.

The only chance for them to be rescinded is THIS election... because once we are a few years down the road, and the concrete has had time to set, and the changes are made and become part of policy that is rolled out... there is NO going back.

And your rights as an American will become second to your rights, or lack of them, as is decided by higher international authorities.

And what we see going on in places like Canada and the UK today, regarding speech, weapons, property rights, will be normalized here in America as well.

I can't imagine that the MAGA people will comply.
They will do a REAL J6 at one point or another.
( For instance, when more innocent Americans get dropped into to jail,
oh I hate to think ...)

We will never fall to Socialism/Marxism/Totalitarianism.
            Never.
            NEVER.
            We're too feisty.

Unfortunately, you are in the minority of women who think that.

Honestly, I can't even blame them for making it a top priority... if I were a woman it would be one of mine.

But I am not a woman and I have no daughters (sons only) so it is not on my radar.

Everyone is different and has different priorities.

I know! I was in the minority when I was only 14 years old. sad

It has also impacted a lot of boys/men over the decades too; who wanted to do the right thing, but the girl said NO... after the fact!

I thought Vance and Walz eventually settled into a kind of niceness which was refreshing. The moderators were okay, but two women against two men? It started out really awful. Walz jumping on Trump: Jump on Trump: AGAIN! But then everything mellowed out after Vance took authority with his fact check. The women looked shocked, as he insisted on clarifying his point, but what else can he, a man do?

(If I were him, I would have walked off the stage after those two biddies muted the mikes. Would it have been so bad to let them discuss the issue a little longer? No.)

Melania Trump in new memoir calls abortion a ‘woman’s fundamental right’: Report

In a copy of “Melania” obtained by The Guardian’s Martin Pengelly ahead of its release next Tuesday, the former first lady writes, “Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body. I have carried this belief with me throughout my entire adult life.”

“Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body?” asks the former model, who married former President Trump in 2005.

“I have always believed it is critical for people to take care of themselves first,” Melania Trump reportedly says in the soon-to-be-released book.

The former first lady writes that there is “no room for negotiation” on her “core set of principles” involving abortion.

“The slogan ‘My Body, My Choice’ is typically associated with women activists and those who align with the pro-choice side of the debate,” she says.

“But if you really think about it, ‘My Body, My Choice’ applies to both sides — a woman’s right to make an independent decision involving her own body, including the right to choose life. Personal freedom.”

Not sure how this one turned into yet another abortion discussion but  I remember very well, the book, "Our
Bodies, Our Selves", (something like that) I remember the content more than the title. It came out about the time of Roe v Wade, and was every bit as destructive! Us girls had to be good and convinced that we weren't talking about two separate bodies if we were to find ourselves pregnant! Guess some bought it, but some did not! That's life right? No pun intended.

          What's up with whom?

If you are referring to me, I started this discussion about the VP debate and it morphed into another discussion about abortion.

But, it did prompt me to write another anti-abortion article, so I do thank the contributors for that.

    https://www.guttmacher.org/2023/01/six- … so-roundup

Girls in states where abortion is banned would take good control over their bodies. If they don't, their lives could be ruined. They could be stuck marrying their random hook-ups, or having the child and giving it up for adoption. Or raising the child with their mother and father, in the family home, with the girl and her baby in her own bedroom. In this case, the poor girl may never find a good man of her dreams. She may be stuck with her parents the rest of her life. So yeah, they will take good control over their bodies and avoid the guilt of murdering their child. Of making the father miserable, if he can't stand the idea of murdering his child. Of the unhealthy consequences of abortion on the girl's body.
