Thanks to Trump, Liberals win Canada elections again

In stunning comeback, Carney’s Liberals win Canada’s federal election

The result marked a reversal in fortunes for a party that was on track for a historic wipeout only months ago and capped a campaign upended by Trump.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberals were set to win a federal election Monday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. projected, in an extraordinary comeback that was fueled in part by President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and attacks on Canada. Just months ago, Carney’s party was headed for a potentially historic drubbing.

Only a few months ago, Poilievre — who is in danger of losing his seat in Parliament as votes continue to be counted — seemed poised to be the next leader of Canada amid public frustration with soaring inflation, rising immigration and what was criticized as then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s overly conciliatory approach to Trump, then the president-elect.

Since he returned to office, however, Trump has enraged Canadians with his behavior toward one of his country’s closest allies. His policies and rhetoric — including imposing steep tariffs on Canadian imports and the insistence that Canada should become the 51st U.S. state — became the central issue in the Canadian election and helped the Liberals make a remarkable turnaround, closing an almost 20-point gap with the Conservatives in a matter of weeks.

The swift shift in public opinion, analysts said, was seismic.

“To say it’s unprecedented is not only an understatement,” said Lori Williams, a political scientist at Mount Royal University, “it underplays the magnitude of the shift.”

Canada exports over 75% of everything they make, produce, etc. to the US.

They can vote the most idiotic Progressive lunatics they want into power.

The US (Trump Administration) will still dictate to them... and the US will get what it wants... or all of Canada will suffer for it... NOT the other way around, they have no power in this relationship, only dependency.

Trump may dictate, but the Canadians are not listening. It was a resounding defeat for conservatives specifically and for Trump generally. So, no 51st state.

Hopefully, that is what is going to happen here as well, in later 2026

          What? Equal opportunity oppression?

When the midterms get here we will find out what equal opportunity outcomes will mean for Trump and his followers. Canada is just a model of what is to come, when people will realize the ineptness and tire of Trump and all of his “stuff”.

Didn't we hear this same kind of nonsense just a year ago?  "Trump is through - will never make it!".  "MAGA is dead - liberals have trampled it!".  "No one will ever vote for Trump - he is evil incarnate and Kamala will thrash him proper!".

              Sure seems like it...

Well Wilderness, Clinton coined it “It’s the Economy, Stupid”

Trump has better make this absurd initiative work or the kitchen table issues will bring the masses out in tar and feathers and he is not going to delay, make excuses for failure or otherwise get much time. November, 2026 cannot arrive soon enough.

That is the difference this time….

Without USAID funding all those campaign efforts, yes, it will be interesting to see how the 2026 election is resolved.

USaID has nothing to do with Trump’s waning support, the economy will be the determining factor, no one is going to buy that Trumps initiatives need to be given an infinite amount of time to work. I will have his head in a matter of months.

Utterly sensational, if I daresay so myself.

If his public track record is to be believed, he will kowtow to America while bolstering the Canadian financial safety nets as he always has. I'm excited to see a more masculine figure representing Canada, Trudeau gave me real submissive vibes.

Trump is just a great scapegoat for unifying his voter base, but I don't see the presence and actions of Trump and his administration doing much in the way of affecting anything outside of media narratives.

Good on Canada for maintaining what appears to be the integrity of their elections. I'll keep thinking about how Trump had any real effect on any of it and see if I don't land on something substantial.

        Too rational...

Hey... how do you think people are going to react on here when Trump wins a 3rd term?

Only way he can get away with it is if he can somehow convince the Supreme Court that his acting Presidency was nullified by two impeachments, and thus he is eligible to run a third term. That would be some deliciously hilarious irony.

As for the reactions on here: Nuclear meltdowns and equally nuclear celebrations, nothing out of the usual.

    America needs new friends...

With Canada the UK and other "western" nations going for full oppression of their people... limiting free speech... weapon confiscation... confiscation of property, assets...

Its time to disconnect from these cesspools of collective insanity ... if these nations can exist economically without the US, good for them, but no need of America to help prop up governments that are diametrically opposed to all that America is supposed to stand for... things like Free Speech, Property Ownership, Liberty, etc.

What friends? This is the 21st century, global politics and economics are on a global scale. The ideas of “Fortress America” went out of vogue almost 100 years ago.

What America is supposed to stand for is not being well represented within the Trump regime. They are better off without America as its participation if it is to devolve into a fascist state, worse than anything in the old communist block or South Africa in the early 1990s.

Agreed Ken, and what's worse [gathered from the tone of this forum topic] there are those who, apparently, are gleeful over the idea of full-on "oppression" of other people!!
