"On Sunday night (May 11, 2025), House Republicans added language to the Budget Reconciliation bill that would block all state and local governments from regulating AI for 10 years, 404 Media reports. The provision, introduced by Representative Brett Guthrie of Kentucky, states that "no State or political subdivision thereof may enforce any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems during the 10 year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act."

Republicans Try to Cram Ban on AI Regulation Into Budget Reconciliation Bill published by 404 Media (May 12, 2025) [A short read paralleling the same perspective offering information]
    https://www.404media.co/republicans-try … tion-bill/

"“...no State or political subdivision thereof may enforce any law or regulation regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems during the 10 year period beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act,” says the text of the bill introduced Sunday night by Congressman Brett Guthrie of Kentucky, Chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The text of the bill will be considered by the House at the budget reconciliation markup on May 13.

That language of the bill, how it goes on to define AI and other “automated systems,” and what it considers “regulation,” is broad enough to cover relatively new generative AI tools and technology that has existed for much longer. In theory, that language will make it impossible to enforce many existing and proposed state laws that aim to protect people from and inform them about AI systems."

Consider . . . "For example, last year California passed a law that requires health care providers to disclose when they have used generative AI to communicate clinical information to patients. In 2021, New York passed the first law in the United States requiring employers to conduct bias audits of AI tools used for employment decisions. California also passed a law that will go into effect in 2026 which requires developers of generative AI models to share detailed documentation on its websites about the data it used to develop these models, an extremely consequential law as AI companies are currently hiding their exploitation of copyrighted materials in order to create these models, as we have shown repeatedly. "

Note: Italicized used to delineate a difference from "all state and local governments from regulating AI for 10 years. In other words, it appears that federal AI use will not be regulated?

And, then for 2025 alone AI investment with US corporations will reach 320 billion by the major players - Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, and Google. Trump has announced there is a 500 billion AI investment for infrastructure.

Some questions to ponder, but first a little interesting point, today, there are over 70,000 AI providers globally each with their own data sources and bias. hmmm . . .

Have you considered how AI impacts you today both good and bad in everyday life?

How is AI shaping reality from local to state to national to global region to global from your observations?

Do you think the 'new' language for eliminating regulations in the Reconciliation Bill is beneficial and to whom? Whom can be individuals, public, and private enterprise.

Do you think this added language will be given due diligence or be rubber stamped sliding through no questions asked?

Are you concerned for yourself and/or future generations?

Along the same line of thought when considering personal data is not only used for processing with AI seeking an 'end result', but AI obtains personal data as well, which becomes the means to an 'end'.

For instance, on last Thursday (Today is the following Wednesday) I updated my income at my Bank. They have been pestering me for a year to do it promising benefits of this and that. Well, all this week in the mail I have an influx of promised credit lines from, well, every credit card offer under the sun. Who would have 'thunk'?

    Anyway . . .

Consumers Are Concerned About Their Data. What Are They Comfortable with Companies Using for Personalization? from Marketing Charts (May 9, 2025)

    https://www.marketingcharts.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/QualtricsXM-Comfort-Use-of-Data-for-Personalization-Apr2025.png

About the Data: The results are based on a Q4 2024 survey of 23,730 consumers across 23 countries/regions, including roughly 1,200 in the US.

Notation: The article is short read. This info is from a Newsletter I have received for years. When reading it give consideration it focused on 'Marketing', well, almost anything.

On the OP topic a short excerpt . . .

"Despite the concern over data privacy and lack of trust in companies to protect their data, consumers still say they want personalization: almost two-thirds (64%) globally, including 65% in the US, strongly agree or agree that they prefer to buy from companies that tailor their experience to their wants and needs."

That is where AI enters the fray.

Question of curiosity? Does "tailor their experience to their wants and needs' substitute for the human touch or perhaps offers that 'perception'?
