Is AI a social problem today?

From Google University generative AI the answer is:

Yes, artificial intelligence (AI) is a social issue because it can have a significant impact on society. AI can raise concerns about privacy, bias, and job loss, and it can also perpetuate existing inequalities.

    Privacy and surveillance
** AI can be used for surveillance, which can raise concerns about privacy.
** AI systems can create social graphs or profiles that can be used to predict a person's sexuality, religion, or political beliefs.

    Bias and discrimination
** AI systems can replicate and amplify biases based on race, gender, and other social factors.
** AI systems can be used in decision-making processes, such as hiring, lending, and criminal justice, which can lead to discriminatory outcomes.

    Job loss
** AI can automate repetitive tasks, which could lead to job loss and high unemployment rates.
** Media and science fiction have portrayed AI as something that can replace entire jobs, not just some tasks.

    Healthcare
** AI applications in healthcare can raise concerns about ethics, trust, and access.
** AI systems can be used to improve treatment processes, but they are not accessible to all societies.

    Other social issues
** AI can harm human physical and mental integrity.
** AI can reduce human autonomy.
** AI can create ethical and legal challenges.

How AI can be detrimental to our social fabric by Infosys
    https://www.infosysbpm.com/blogs/busine … abric.html

The article states detriments to society could/would be . . .
** Job automation leading to high unemployment rates
** AI bias and rise in socio-economic inequality
** Abuse of data and loss of control
    ** Privacy, security and deepfakes
    ** Financial instability
** Impact on cognitive and social skills

    What is a p(doom) score?

"A "p(doom)" score, short for "probability of doom," is a term used in the AI community to represent the likelihood that artificial intelligence will lead to a catastrophic event, often interpreted as human extinction, signifying how likely someone believes AI could destroy humanity; essentially, it's a measure of how worried someone is about the potential existential risks of advanced AI."

The range is 0 → 100 where zero is none and 100 is 100% certainty.

The computation for your p(doom) score, of course, is subjective. It would be based on your knowledge base of AI in areas from the military weapons to the medical/health community, old wives tales, and speculation using the imagination.

    Some notable p(doom) scores are:

    Elon Musk = 10 - 20%
    Nate Silver (founder of 538) = 5 - 10%
Daniel Kokotajlo (Forecaster & former OpenAI researcher) = 70%
Dan Hendrycks (Head of Center for AI Safety) = >80%

To see the full list see . . .

Using the questions Gallup asked, your knowledge or lack thereof for AI, and speculation what would you think your p(doom) score is?

    Thoughts, criticisms, accolades, and/or commentary?

P.S. Today, I put my p(doom) score at 35 - 40% based mainly on my personal experience with it and knowledge base.

      Thanks for contribution, Venkat.

I take a position of somewhat being ignorant as I explore AI everyday now for a month or more. Each day I learn something new, revealing, and eye opening prompting me to respond with awe.

Have you any experience with AI in your life today? How about its usage in India?
