Former FBI Director James Comey recently posted a photo on Instagram showing seashells arranged to read “86 47,” with the caption, “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.” In slang, “86” can mean to eliminate, and “47” is widely understood to refer to Donald Trump, who would be the 47th president if re-elected. Many people interpreted this as a veiled threat against Trump.
The White House responded, calling it a possible "hit" on the President and said they’re taking it seriously. Comey later deleted the post and claimed he didn’t know the numbers had any violent connotation, saying he opposes violence of any kind.
As of now, he hasn’t been arrested or formally charged. But if the Secret Service believes there’s a credible threat, it would trigger a full investigation under federal law (18 U.S. Code § 871), which makes threats against the President a serious crime, even for a former FBI director.
I’m still waiting to hear from the DOJ, FBI, Secret Service, and Trump himself!
Honestly, what else is there to say? Most of you know I’m rarely at a loss for words. But right now, I can only sum it up in one: sick.
More proof that those on the left have lost their minds. The former member of the FBI knows exactly what that means and what he did.
He should be completely investigated for this.
MAGA and Trump need to be investigated for producing "8646" paraphernalia.
Conservatives are being criticized for previously defending the "86 46" slogan as a call for President Biden's impeachment, while simultaneously accusing former FBI Director James Comey of calling for President Donald Trump's assassination after he posted an "86 47" image in a since-deleted Instagram post.

Includes pictures of 8646.
Were people as sickened?
I personally don't recall ANY reaction.
Probably because most of us use "86 it" to mean getting rid of something...
looking forward to the pretzel-logic explanation from Jack of how his “86” post did NOT mean “kill 46”, but Comey’s post DEFINITELY meant “kill 47”.
I fully support violent language against political figures, veiled or not. I fully support language that has the potential to incite violence. I support expressed violent ideation.
This all comes with the caveat that the intention behind it is to express frustration, as opposed to literally calling for violence. If someone feels the need to express such thoughts, all the better for those around them to know they're having those thoughts.
Seems like clout chasing in this instance. It's sad what people will do to try and stay in the limelight. Nonetheless, I now understand that this individual is immature, perhaps unstable, and/or wouldn't mind supporting violent revolution.
Let people show their colors.
I agree with your take. Comey's attitude seems deeply personal at this point, not grounded in principles or ethics, but in bitterness. It’s hard not to see it as resentment from someone who lost his job and has never really recovered from the public fallout. Trump moved on and continues to defy expectations, which only seems to deepen Comey’s frustration.
As for the broader point, I think it's important to distinguish between venting frustration and inciting violence, a line that’s being deliberately blurred by some. Sharing raw emotions, especially when one feels wronged or unheard, isn’t the same as endorsing chaos. That’s a critical nuance that too many ignore in favor of easy outrage.
I can only imagine how true Trump haters must feel, pushed to the background and, in many cases, left looking quite foolish. What surprises me is that Comey would step out of the shadows again, only to end up with yet another egg on his face.
I can only imagine how true Biden haters must feel, pushed to the background and, in many cases, left looking quite foolish after the onslaught of 8646 assassination calls.
This was done by how many former directors of the FBI?
Comey is a private citizen....86'd by Trump
You know who's not? FBI director Kash Patel, the one who once share a video of himself wielding a chainsaw against Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, President Biden and others.
The hypocresy and fake outrage of MAGA is almost funny.
Absolutely. Manufactured outrage. Look here not there while they are attempting to slash Snap, Medicaid and deliver a nice tax cut to the wealthy by way of taking away as much as they can from the rest of us.
I just read an article last night about spy craft and it concluded that Patel and Trump are the greatest security threats to the US ever! More than China! More than Russia! More than Iran! More than Benedict Arnold. Why?
Because the have or are removing most of America's counterterrorism and counter-intelligence capability.
Warning: It is long and scary and MAGA DOESN'T CARE, they are more worried about seashells in the sand.

It is amazing - in light of all the atrocities by Trump - what MAGAs choose to be upset by.
Then you won't mind going to jail for threatening public figures with violence and death.
There's a difference between:
"Here's an idea: 86 trump," and, "We should assassinate Trump."
Both can be taken as violent and suggestive, but I'd say one is more appropriate and left to interpretation.
People should be allowed to state whatever they wish so long as there is no tangible action toward inciting or otherwise taking violent action. It's a crucial part of the freedom of speech we enjoy. Now, if I began purchasing fertilizer, chemicals, ammunition, etc. and was also expressing violent thoughts, then yeah, I think at that point I'm ready to go to prison, or die.
Actually, that is NOT true and is very misleading! IN REALITY, "86" means cut the guy off from drinking and/or get him out of the bar or club.
IT HAS NEVER had the connotation of "eliminate" until the right-wing media came up with it.
ALSO, where is your outrage with the tens of thousands of items MAGA bought and wear that says "8646"?
Why aren't you saying that those who came up with "8646" are "sick"?
Look at the array....do these represent maga:s desire to do harm? Please advise. So when magas use the term 86 it means to impeach but when anyone else does it means to murder??
Why weren't these MAGA-types arrested and prosecuted for threatening to assassinate President Biden?
Was he investigated?? Should have been?
I think he had almost 30,000 likes on this tweet....
Yep - he wanted to KILL McConnell, McCarthy, and McDaniel and MAGA APPLAUDED him for it. Now THAT is sick. (sarcasm of course for those who don't recognize it)
Are folks looking again to curtail free speech?
If Bondi or Patel go after Comey, they will makes themselves look even more ridiculous than they already do.
In other news...It appears that Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill got 86’d.
Hopefully permanently so that the middle class can breath a sigh of relief.

I am absolutely furious. Two young adults were gunned down yesterday at a Jewish museum right here in the United States, not some foreign warzone, not a flashpoint overseas, but in our own backyard. This wasn't just a shooting. This was an act of targeted hatred, and it speaks to a dangerous,...
