I always do this when I see it on facebook, and that is exactly where this is coming from.

My perspective is that it is the WRONG thing to do to NOT take the tiny bit of time to post this.

I've seen this on the news. I sincerely hope that Madelyn is alive and well somewhere.  Child abductions are the stuff horrid nightmares of made of. I ache for these parents and my heart breaks, but all due respect, they really effed up on this, which I'm sure magnifies their pain.
Had this been posed as a speculation, never would I conceive that an educated, responsible & loving pair of parents, would ever even think of leaving 3 babies in a hotel room, without adult supervision, with an unlocked door, obstructed from their view.....this is tragic and such a mystery. No one saw ANYTHING??  Outrageous.

Well thanks for giving me a bit of "the story."  I do not watch tv, so I didn't know - and don't hotels all have security cameras....ALL OVER THE PLACE?

Even then - yup, I wouldn't even leave my room open were there nothing but my clothes in it...and aren't hotel doors all supposed to lock on auto?

I should have been more specific.....it was an exclusive "villa-type" Holiday resort....like a mini-community, with various buildings (guest suites) surrounding a common area with pools & restaurant/lounge....etc...Open-air cafe.....and the parents had joined some acquaintances for dinner at the cafe....leaving Madelyn and her younger twin siblings, sleeping in their suite. They were taking turns walking back to the suite to check on the sleeping children........but like I said, the door was left unlocked & from where they were seated, did not have a view of their specific suite.  (To make matters more incredulous, there were facility "babysitters" available for hire.)  This entire story couldn't be more tragic in terms of terrible decisions.  As for cameras?  I don't recall what was reported on that. I'd have to pull up the original story and re-familiarize myself with the facts.
BTW...both parents are Doctors.....the mother is a PEDIATRICIAN.  Do you think it can get any more ironic?

I have to wonder if the parents weren't targeted for some sort of political reason.

Sounds like they are high flyers...I smell "corporation" on this.

The theory is - according to the British police detective turned private detective, Maddie's likely to be in Brazil, possibly disguised as a boy with short hair, or with dyed hair and contact lenses speaking Portuguese. It's a tough nut, this one, because some very sharp-witted people wanted her. They probably planned the whole thing down to the last comma, even possibly 'buying' the local police chief who delayed acting on the case until the abductors had time to clear Portuguese territory. They weren't taking chances, and left a paper-trail for investigators that led them the wrong way. Paedophiles they might have been, or not - maybe desperate enough to adopt a child to go to these lengths. Adoption is a minefield in this country, as with many others, and they probably failed all the pre-conditions. Which doesn't excuse what they did, but if that line of thought was followed, it might have led to a solution earlier. As it is the trail has gone as cold as a polar bear's bum, and South America is a minefield for anyone British now, with sympathy building for Argentina in their chase after the Falklands.

      http://www.findmadeleine.com/index.html

Madeleine has been missing since May 2007, above is an update of what she might look like now. One of the things about her appearance that would not have changed is she had a unusual feature to do with her eyes. The iris of Madeleine's  eye looks like the color had spread into another area of the eye, this would be difficult to disguise.

I think speculation about this case has been covered fully in European news papers in the past. What the focus needs to be on is if this little girl is still out there she needs to be found. Whenever I see reference to this, I just hope that if she was abducted it was by someone who wanted a daughter and that she was not taken for other reasons.

I had no idea at all how uninformed I was about any and all of this....I just always post missing children things when I see them!

I ...thought that was something..."fresh," you know - like something that had been reported yesterday!!!!

I think it is great that you are bringing this to people's attention as who knows what might lead to some new information on this.

I just wanted to add an update about her appearance since the photos most of us remember are of how she looked at the time.

I watched a TV documentary on it the other night, and they said that a man was seen carrying a sleeping child in his arms away from the vicinity round about the time Madeleine went missing.

He has never been tracked down to be eliminated from police enquiries.

I didn't see anything about the door being unlocked, but it was an open window that alerted their parents to something being wrong, as they had left them shut.

I don't know why everyone thinks the parents leaving their kids alone in the apartment is so wrong. Who hasn't done that on holiday? I know I have while staying within the resort complex and going back to check periodically.

The fact that they are both doctors doesn't make it right or wrong. Those poor people have to live with this for the rest of their lives.

We can all hope and pray that Madeleine is out there somewhere, and safe, but the longer this goes on, the less hope there is of finding her alive.

Oh and the Portuguese police are a disgrace, IMO. The man in charge wrote a book about it and made half a million pounds from the sales.

Well Izzy, so far as the locked doors thing goes - it sounds to me like you living in Spain - that your country ...is just a safer place than it is here in the USA.

IzzyMposted 13 years agoin reply to this

The point was that I think the doors were locked, and the window closed. Most of those holiday flats have doors that automatically lock, and every parent knows to keep windows closed because small children can fall out.

Still not expecting someone to climb in, all the same, and steal your children.

Oh and I'm back in Scotland where doors and things get locked too, as in Spain. Thieves are everywhere.

              Nice!

You could have said any Western European nation...and my thoughts would have been the same, and they would have been "wish I could go live there for a bit and check it all out!"

The family live about four miles from us and her dad works at our local hospital. Our church regularly says prayers for her and her family and I hope she can be found. There has been a massive campaign- after it happenned we were on holiday and I carried the posters on my car throughout Holland and Germany.

Whateverthe parents did or didn't do there is no closure for any of them. The Portugeuse police were quick to blame them and perhaps some of their investigation was affected by this view. I dont know what Scotland Yard can do butI guess its worth a chance.

Anyway if your social circle don't know about this then it is worth posting on facebook etc- it might jog someone's mind and lead to discovery of the child.

I think so - another HP author/FB friend had shared the picture, and so I shared it and put it here....

Kids turn up years later sometimes - it is always worth keeping out there.

I agree its a great thing to bring this up here on those forums.

There were various reports of sightings of this little girl all over Europe when she went missing, and for all we know she could well be in the USA now.

Its great what they can do with photographs so have a look at what they think she looks like now, and remember the eye!

That distinguishes her from other little girls. She could well be still alive, despite the fact most of think she is probably dead. Someone wanted us to think that...

I remember when the child vanished - I think there was speculation about whether one of the parents was involved, which probably wasted valuable time if they ended up being ruled out and if the authorities were not pursuing other leads at first.

I am certain the parents  scrutinize every girl they see who remotely resembles her and agonize over the 'what if' and 'if only' script in their heads.

So many young children have been found after being abducted.  I hope she is somehow okay, and that the family is reunited.  Or, if the worst has happened, it would at least be a blessing to have resolution and a form of closure.

I hope that precious child is alive.  Nothing is more heartwretching for a parent is to have his/her child missing.   We must be ever vigilant regarding our beautiful, precious children.
