   Catarina Migliorini, a 20-year-old Brazilian woman auctioned off her virginity last month for $780K to a man from Japan known as "Natsu".The virgin must provide a document from the gynecologist that certifies her claim to virginity. According to the documentary filmaker this is (not prostitution). "If you only do it once in your life then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one amazing photograph it does not automatically make you a photographer,"  I believe If you were arrested for selling sex even if it's your (first time) you’d be a prostitute in that moment. What do you think?

   i guess in a way it is but to me it's more stupidity then anything. i read about this and my first thought was "what a stupid way to lose your virginity"

   Definition of prostitution - 1.The practice or occupation of engaging in sex with someone for payment.
   
   Definition of practice - 1. Perform (an activity) or exercise (a skill) repeatedly or regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency.
   
   So by definition no she is not a prostitute because she is not doing it more than once. However by law in most areas she would be a prostitute.
   I really couldn't care less what anyone decides to do with their own body. Also I don't think there should be laws telling people what they can do with their own body. I do agree it is a waste to lose virginity this way.

   Yeah, it seems a lot like prostitution. If you sell yourself, just once, then you are a prostitute. Just one time is enough to ruin a career and label you for life.

   Seems like high priced prostitution to me.  Does that make the documentary film maker and auction company pimps or at least accessories to a crime (assuming prostitution is a crime in the country or countries where this "transaction" occurs)?  If a documentary film maker is involved is he (she) going to film the event?  Does that make it pornography?  What does that say about anyone who may watch the documentary film, particularly if they pay to view it?
   Whatever happens, it certainly will be a "special" experience to Catarina. 
   I can see the commercial now:  Offering yourself at auction arranged by a film maker, $780,000. Saving yourself for someone special, "priceless".

   I think the greater question is how can someone give their virginity to a stranger who is base enough to pay a fortune for it.  Their values on both sides seem very skewed.
   
   Is she a prostitute, I don't really know, but she has some really really poor judgement and values that make me question what kind of overall person she is.

   I think it is a form of prostitution: you are selling yourself.
   
   I wonder if the auction winner (or customer) has to provide documentation to prove that he is healthy and disease free. Has she done a back ground check on him? Is he, for example, married with a family? Or does he have a criminal record or a shady background?  What kind of man bids for sex like this anyway?
   
   It sounds like the movie with Liam Neeson, "Taken", only the woman is volunteering to be auctioned off.
   
   I wonder how you would even start having sex in this sort of situation and how long will the sex last? I'm sure the man is going to want to get his money's worth or is there a time limit attached to the event? And where are they going to do it, at his place? Who will protect her if something goes wrong or will she bring a body guard along?

   Definitions of words don't change with each passing news sensation.  If she sold sex once, she's a one-time prostitute.  If she no longer sells sex, she's a former prostitute.

   My view is that if she sells sex or for money she is a prostitute. If she does not sell sex again for money then she is a former prostitute. So I feel on these terms she is a prostitute. She will always remember her 'first time' that's for sure.

    Well seeing as she's selling sex, that would obviously be an act of prostitution. It doesn't matter how many times she does it. I guess if she never did it again you could call her a "retired" prostitute, but the fact is still going to be that at one point in her life she went through with an act of prostitution, so yes it is prostitution. The documentary filmaker is an enabler haha.

    Dang, $780,000 is way overpriced!  ...Of course that's a form of prostitution - albeit a ridiculous one for the customer.  He could have bought like 15,600 Class B prostitutes for that price, with the STDs coming in at no charge whatsoever!  Ha!
