Should sexual activity be permitted between unmarried couples in homes for the elderly?
i say "Yes" if they can get by with it. I do know of a circumstance whereby an elderly gentleman used to go streaking at night to a lady friends room. He was returned to his room when he was caught but I'm sure there were times when he didn't get caught. Some body parts may malfunction but ones mind is still fully functional.Sometimes healthy relationships need to be physical too.
I believe the elderly are entitled to have sex. Some of these people are paying over $5000 per month to stay in places most people want to avoid. They have had their driving privileges taken away from them, their meals are scheduled for them, and some of them are surrounded by others who are less healthy who require help with (all) of their (personal) needs. This can lead to enduring the smell of bad odors as well as witnessing others living in pain and hearing about the deaths of fellow tenants.
For those who are relatively healthy living in this atmosphere can lead to depression. Being allowed to continue to have a satisfying sex life could lead to having a better outlook of life under the circumstances. As it stand many people are living in these places see them as places to mark the days until they die. Not every senior citizen desires to be treated like a child or spoken to in "baby talk".
Homes for the elderly are not prisons or mental institutions! Anyone of sound mind should have the right to determine when or if they have sex with another consenting adult. Too often the adult children of seniors are pre-occupied with worrying about losing their inheritance. This is oftentimes the underlying reason why they do not want the elderly to date, have sex, or fall in love. Seniors have earned the right to live out their final years as they see fit and if someone chooses not to sit in a room all day playing checkers, watching "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" while waiting to eat and take medications then so be it!
dashinfscorpio -- A sensitive and enlightened response. You clearly see the larger and more worrisome restrictions on freedom buried under the volatile issue of sex. We measure the quality of a society by the way they treat their most vulnerable.
I am against sex outside of marriage, but I do not believe in controlling other people's lives. Of course a certain amount of control is implied at an elder care facility but if it doesn't interfere with the health concerns of the patient and both partners are of sound mind, who are we to say what they can or can't do? With consideration to the health concerns of the residents and whether or not both partners are of sound mind, I say yes, of course, it's no one else's business.
Excellent comment Alexander--and VERY good to hear from you again!
Thanks, I miss it here, and then I saw you had posed a question and had to come by :-)
Alexander--I value your input on any issue. You say you miss being here--unless some compelling reason keeps you away, why don't we see more of you?
I want to focus my writing efforts in a career direction, I don't believe there's money to be made here anymore. Maybe I should be writing here to connect and have fun, but right now I am way to busy for that :-(

Sodom wasn't smited for homosexuality (false-idol worship, poor treatment of strangers and the poor, gang rape). Leviticus doesn't matter (old covenant, pork, lobster, tattoos, mixed fibers, period sex, swearing). Paul was talking about vastly different subjects (lust, guilt, boy...

As the un-believers would have us believe, Man was created, specifically, by a form of deity for the purposes of testing. In this creation Man, being an inferior life form, would be subjected to a hostile world without an instruction manual, but no matter, Man could not read or write anyway. In...

Who related sex with sin?We can see all creatures except humans enjoy sex freely and to the fullest without the feeling of any sort of guilt. Who or what made man feel guilty about indulging in sex?
