Pursuing relationships without taking time to do some introspective thinking to figure out what one wants and needs in a mate.
Not doing so is the equivalent of going shopping without a list!
Odds are you'll throw anything into your cart at the last minute.
Naturally the goal is to find someone who shares your same values, wants the same things for the relationship you do, naturally agrees with you on how to obtain those things, and last but not least there is a mutual depth of love and desire for one another.
Like attracts like and opposites attract divorce attorneys!
Anyone who is having one nightmare relationship after another probably needs to re-examine their "mate selection criteria".
The only thing all of your bad relationships have in common is (you).
Each of us (chooses) our own friends, lovers, and spouse.
Ideally with age and experience comes wisdom to make better choices for ourselves!
Secondly the thing that prolongs staying in "toxic relationships" is expecting the other person to {change}!
People only change when (they) are unhappy.
There are only two ways to experience joy and peace of mind in relationships: We either get what we want or we learn to be happy with what we have. Accept them as is or move on.

Agreeing together both definition and meaning for relationship and then living with that. A relationship . . . any relationship is always unique like a specially prepared meal with those just right spices, although with time may become bland having repeated itself. One may say at task is the relationship arriving upon the likes of mom's home cooked meal being intimately familiar and savored or is it something that transcends between two chefs creating their own uniquely favorite meal. Maybe it is the process of preparing the meal itself that is relished with the delight of discovery and difference with the exploration of something new, yet tempered with a favorite accompanying delight. One may discover this or that while the another also the same, yet together they create a wonderful meal contributing to 'their' health uniquely.
