    If he loves or cares about you then he will be hurt.

    No matter how you "sugar coat" things when one person wants to continue a relationship and the other feels they would be better off with someone else.....there are going to be hurt feelings. However part of being an adult is learning how to deal with things when they don't go our way.

    You really can't avoid that. All you can do is be honest and if you want to tread lightly, don't put any blame on him. It's not about who did what, it's just that it doesn't work and you really care about him but you don't think it would be best to move forward and create more pain.
