In America date can be "Meet me for coffee later or see you at Happy hour .."..something like this..
In the Philippines, at least when I was growing up date was: " I would like to take you out for dinner in the presence of her parents..." This would mean dinner+movie+disco dancing.
The person interested has to be prepared to deal with 3 other people..the woman and at least three chaperones..If he wants to talk to her privately, it will be at her home, after he has socialized with her parents and the parents have already spoken with each other and know each other..and he has been invited to visit her home.
I do not know now..it was an era past..
