Would you remain friends with a person who swindled a mutual friend of $50,000 and refuses to repay?
If you had a friend who swindled another mutual friend, and paid a lawyer to declare herself a bankrupt so she cannot be forced to repay, what would you do? Continue as though it was none of your business?
If the person in-question really perpetrated a swindle... that is, they knew, going in, that they didn't expect that they'd repay the money... then I'd consider that person a cad, and would probably cease spending time with them....
I have a personal story of such a financial "deal".... wherein my partner refused to pay a large sum to someone who had been good friends with us (primarily "business" friends; but "personal" friends, as well), and allowed us to run up a sizeable balance with our business..... She (my partner) walked away from the debt as our business failed. Fast-forward about 10 years.... I landed a nice "windfall." The first thing I did was travel to these people and repay that old debt... WITH INTEREST!!!!! That was one of the best things I feel I ever did!!!!
I would say it was none of my business. I don't know how someone can let something like getting swindled for $50K happen.
