I watch his eyes, listen to possible changes in his voice, focus on his body language. However, there is no true way to tell. He can tell a lie like I breathe air. So I have to research it and find out myself. Still, the only lie he has given is teasingly or joking.
Body language and tones are very useful but the most obvious one are; nervous gestures such as; hair twirling, pacing... defensiveness...the best one is when they turn the lie around by shifting the weight to you to avoid the lie being questioned...and then aim some hurtful dagger at you...
