What is your favorite quote on forgiveness and what do you believe are the benefits of forgiving?
"Forgiveness is not forgetfulness" - When you choose to "forget" you throw away a very valuable lesson.
The biggest benefit to forgiving is freeing your mind to focus on other things. Whenever you continue to linger or replay what happened it makes you a prisoner. You first have to forgive yourself for trusting the person and then promise to allow others to "earn your trust" rather than give it away.
Also keep in mind it is not a requirement to continue to associate with a person you have forgiven or for that matter actually forgive them person to person. Once you have forgiven them in (your mind) you are free even if you never see them again.
"When you forgive, you in no way change the past - but you sure do change the future." Bernard Meltzer
When we let go of any emotional luggage, the benefits include a lighter heart, which translates into a better appreciation of what you have now and a greater likelihood of living your life more fully and joyfully. Your future opens up ahead of you with much more promise and likelihood of success, because you're no longer forever looking back, focused on what you can't change. In short, forgiveness is life-changing for the one who forgives.

I have a hard time believing that someone who can commit violent sex crimes can truly...
