I think that really depends on the individual and what they are comfortable with. Marriage apparently is not for everyone or we wouldn't have an almost 50% divorce rate in the United States.
Life is a personal journey and you are responsible for your own happiness. Therefore only (you) can decide which (lifestyle) is best for you.
Jim, my friend, to each his own. I could never imagine myself single---even when I was. Ever since I can remember I was envisioning my perfect partner and my loving family......and at the age of 27 I had already had two children and my wonderful husband....at 37 we made them kids 3...and if life wasn't such a bumpy ride, I would have had one more child.
Some people have not learned to share or take on responsibilities while others were drowned in them. So as the other writers have already said, it's an individual journey each needs to take. But think about one thing....in 20-30 how would you like to see yourself? That'll help you decide.
