Why do you think James Bond is appealing to both women and men?
Is it due to his aura of danger or his aura of romance? Or is it something else?
It is partically the sudden danger, the smooth way he handles situations, how he always comes out on top. It's also the enjoyment of the movies, watching someone but you would never want to be them. We enjoy observing their trials, and when we walk away we feel better about our lives.
For men James Bond is a man of action, money is no object, and women fall under his spell wherever he goes.
I imagine women are attracted to his "rugged looks" combined with his an air of sophistication and the mystery of the unknown.
Women often admire guys who are worshiped by other men. It's like the old saying: Men want to be him and women want to be with him! :-)
