Where does the true love go during heartbreaks and separations??
Why do we get hurt after leaving a person who does not bother for you?
If the person can leave you knowing that it is devastating you, then there was no true love to begin with for them. Yes, you may have thought they were your true love, but if so they would never be able to hurt you so.
When a dream dies it always hurts. Even if you were the one to end a relationship because it was toxic or abusive it's natural to still feel heartache. Grief is something we go through. It's impossible to skip over. Two quotes come to my mind in situations like this.
“Some people think that it’s holding on that makes one strong; sometimes it’s letting go.” — unknown
“I don’t miss him, I miss who I thought he was.” – unknown
