What are some tips for winning someone's heart and making it last?

Bet there has been so much written about this, but time and ideas also change as we get older and the world changes.

Be yourself. If you win someone's love on a false pretense then did YOU really win their love?

To win somebody's heart you must be totally  into each other be interested and and fun times together show your all sides and accept each other. To make it last show them love and care and affection be romantic  be true to that person. Be committed and open in conversations. Be direct let them know what you  want from the relationship right from day one and avoid telling lies.

Be yourself and let the chips fall where they may!
As tehgyb mentioned in his answer. The last thing anyone wants is to have someone (fake) a personality to win them over. Eventually they'll reveal their "authentic selves" and the relationship will be filled with regret.
It's not uncommon to hear someone say: "He/she is not the same person I fell in love with." It's generally because they were a victim of "bait & switch". Their mate behaved a certain way to win them over. Once there was an emotional investment or commitment they changed. Early on they pretend to like what you like and never say (no) to any of your suggestions. Naturally you believe you've met your "soul-mate". (again); Until you understand how the "infatuation phase" works you'll keep falling for this.
Instead of approaching dating from the standpoint of trying figure out what someone else is looking for or wants you are better served to know what it is (you) are looking for! (Be the buyer) Generally speaking like attracts like.
Ideally you want to choose someone who shares your same values, wants the same things for a relationship that you do, (naturally agrees) with you on how to obtain those things, and last but not least there is a (mutual) love and desire for one another.

    Best of luck!
