    Would you continue to live with a compulsive gambler after marriage?

    I know of a couple married for several years she is stuck in this marriage and only found out more than she had actually known about her married partner. He gambles away  a few thousands of dollars every month and she is fed up of this whole situation. Her life is with her husband but he is not playing his cards correctly. What would you do?

    Seek counseling. This situation will not be solved after only a night of conversation or even an ultimatum. I would seek ongoing counseling for myself and then for us as a couple. Plus, I would direct him to Gambler's Anonymous. If he refuses to go, I would consider the next step during counseling sessions.

    I always believe that a mate should help the other through anything and that includes addiction. But the addict has to want help. Marriage should mean "for better or for worse" but if there are children involved, I would put my children's needs above my husband's addiction. It is my duty to protect their well-being and that includes financial safety.
