Would you ever consider moving to another country to live with someone you’ve only met online?
Lately, I heard from some I know that she met someone online and they started a “virtual relationship”, fast forward a few months….she’d bought a ticket to fly out to live with him for three months. Have you ever done something like that? Would you ever consider doing it? Any thoughts on this?
Mmmm.… nope. That's how episodes of "Criminal Minds" get started.
NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, HELL NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO WAY IN HELL!!!
Yeah, but Peter~~would you consider it? LOL
Would I consider it? NO, NO, NO, NO, HELL NO, NO,
try considering a "sense of humor"......Don't you recognize sarcasm? I asked you that in total jest!
No.
I don't think there's anything wrong with meeting someone online, many successful relationships start that way these days.
But to commit to 3 months with someone you've never actually met in person seems a bit strange to me. I'd be going for numerous visits (and requiring them to do the same) before doing that. I think getting to know someone in person is still very important, even if you feel you know them online already.
I completely agree, although they were living in different countries on different sides of the world, so that's why she decided on going for such a long time.
You need to get to know the person, but I wouldn't plan on staying with him at first.
Carol....LOL....Oh brother. I would consider this when & if the day comes that I would consider: Sticking needles in my eyes. Slamming my head in a car door, walking across hot coals or stepping into a cage with an extremely hungry & angry 300 lb. African Lion.
No. I would still want to visit one another and get to know each other (in person) over a length of time before making such a decision.
It's possible to have great chemistry via Skype, email, text, and over the phone only to find out when you're face to face it's not there!
Generally speaking the person who plans to relocate feels as though they have nothing worth staying for where they live.
I can't imagine selling my house, furnishings, closing my bank accounts, selling my car, and walking away from a career to go live with someone I've never met in person, held hands, kissed, or whatever. There is no substitution for being together in person.
On the other hand if I were in a dead-end job or unemployed, living with parents or in a run down studio apartment, with nothing to look forward to I'd probably be more up for an "adventure" to shake things up. It's much easier to {leave nothing} for something.
Other factors such as one's youth, having no children, or never been married along with them always being intrigued by that country might have influence. For instance they always dreamed of living in Paris.
Lastly being a "die-hard" romantic makes some people say yes!
In a way, I wish I had the courage and social skills to do something like that. Wouldn't it be fabulous if a snow sport lover like me could live in Salzburg? True, I could just pack up and move there, but what if things fell apart? I did live in Seattle for awhile, and loved it, but I kept having bad luck with jobs, and eventually had to be rescued by my brother, which is why I now live on the Big Island of Hawaii. This place has been very good to me, and I'm not foolish enough to mess with it!
The situation you describe sounds similar to mail order brides. I had a co-worker who was one; she's from the Philippines. She told me about the extreme poverty there, and how she packed on a ton of weight after coming to America. When I met her husband, I quickly found out why he had to get a mail order bride. He was an @$$hole! He embarrassed my poor co-worker with his behavior. It turns out this is his second marriage. He divorced his first wife (who is American) for working, and replaced her with a "submissive Asian". Except he won't give her any money. So how does she get it? By working, of course. I don't know what became of them, because they moved to Oahu.

Perhaps my fear is a good thing. A professional snowboarder once told me whenever I'm afraid, ask myself if it is justified. If the answer is no, go ahead. If it is yes, analyze the situation, because it may not be a good thing to do. In this case, I'd best back off.
Wow....what a story!
Good advice from the snowboarder, we should take the time to analyze any situation we don't feel comfortable in. Thank him from me, I'm going to try doing this.
don't do it...even if one has cyber sex (like some people do)... because love is not only about sex.... my point is every one of us has a bad side too...and when one gets into relationship both have to know about the other ones bad side also... so how would one know the true nature of the other one....? (Normal relationship to work... is working around each ones bad side too and how to handle that).... and also more likely it might be about money... and supporting each other..... l find nowadays it is hard for some man to take on responsibility.... so having said all that..
l would say No... as it some time takes years to know the other side of the other partners habits and good and bad sides.....
By the way... l have come across some one who talked to me for 7 years... very flattering and message makes one feel truly in love slowly we have conversations (all literally (no dirty web cam stuff) then he often ask if l would come and live abroad.
Thanks for commenting Rexy! Personally, I would never do it....too scared. There are many things to consider, as in "real life" relationships, which are always perfect in the beginning, until they aren't, right?
l would n 't do it either as per my previous conversation...
