What is the "Good News?"  What is its purpose?

I have seen the term used among people on religious forums.  I wonder if there is a unified understanding of the term.

Diane what a great question ! Everybody likes good news , it is positive , it makes the heart feel good , it gives purpose and meaning.
What good news that the whole world can benifit from would be like sun , the moon and stars
They are faithful we know without a doubt they will be there tomorrow.
So the good news that is avaible is like no other it is news that is the cure to all human prpblems
    like
    Sickiness
    Death
    Aging
    Birth defects
    Crime
    Hunger
    Pollution
    Hate
    Housing
The good news was how these very things would be corrected under a different Authority that would rule from the heavenly realm.
His campaign was in action some 2000 years ago.
He walked and he talk to thousands of people
    He healed sickness
    He cured the blind
    He fed multitudes
He cured people of demonic possession. And last he returned the life force that left the body called death.
He did all these things to prove what he can do for each and every one of us. But by order and the time agreed to by his Heavenly Father Jehovah ! Palms. 83:18.
The good news is that what ever we are faced with in health mentally , physically , we will recieve relief .
We have a new Appointed King that purchased us as his  future citizens. So our king has an education work that is required to be with him in paradise. Not heavenly but earthly. His subject will clean the earth and plant , build homes Isaiah 65:21 for many will return from sleep in their graves.Eze 37:13 says he will rise you up out of your graves.
Surely if we came into existance he can return our existence.
    Notice what is written.
First that Jesus is a King
    Math 27:11
    John 12:13
Math 9:35  Talks of his campaign
to cure every sort of sickness.
Luke 8:1. Says how the good news was preached ,
Luke 4:43 Was must go to help others learn and declare this good news !
Well here we are in the 21 century
And the work is just about finished.
There is time to learn more about this message of hope for us all at Jworg.
Thank you Daine I appreciate your question and that you posted it.

Diane- The word GOSPEL literally means "Good News". When Jesus  used the word Gospel, He was referring to the Good News of the Kingdom of God. One example is found in Matthew 24:14 (NKJV) which state: 14:And this "gospel" of the Kingdom will be preach in all the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come. There is also the "good news" (Grace) of Grace. One example is found in Act 20:24 (NKJN) which states: 24 But noe of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself; so that I may finish my race with joy; and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus Christ, to testify to the "GOSPEL" of the Grace of God.

If you research the word Gospel it will be confirm that is means "Good News". Saddly, the word "gospel" is often times misused by those who do not understand what  is and isn't Good News (Gospel).

Jesus main focus of His ministry was spreading the Gospel (good news) of the Kingdom of God.

    God bless.

The Good News is that Jesus Came on earth to show us that we are not alone, that we have someone who loves and cares for us and knows what's happening in our lives. He came to show us we have a father who wants us to know that there is meaning to life. That our existence will not end like that once we die. That we have a place we can call home. That he (Jesus) came to show us the way to God (our Father) and to show that Evil has no power against us.

Kingdom Come is RIGHT!  "The Gospel of Christ" is the "GOOD NEWS!"

It is what Christ came and DIED for and MOST don't care!

I keep telling ALL the WORD of GOD says that the "GOOD NEWS" is so important that JESUS (aka Holy Spirit; John 14:26 "...in my NAME...") spoke through Paul in Galatians 1:6-9 and told us "ANYONE who preaches any other gospel (other than what the Apostles taught AFTER THE CROSS), are "ACCURSED" {paraphrasing}!

Unfortunately, RELIGION has "taught" MOST otherwise!  Satan has used RELIGION to detour MOST from TRUTH and MOST are "ACCURSED!"

Although I do as Ephesians 4:15 says "... SPEAKING THE TRUTH IN LOVE..." MOST have been convinced by RELIGION Paul tried to change the gospel of Christ when, IN FACT, he was "the vessel" JESUS used (Acts 9:15) to give the Message of "GRACE" (The Gospel of Christ) which is just the "opposite" causing MOST to be "ACCURSED!"

Look how MANY, MANY, MANY, souls are going to be lost just because Satan has used his "Greatest Device to Lose Souls" - RELIGION!  It's definitely working and Satan is laughing as he rides with those who believe "twisted" doctrine, all the way to the "churches!"

The "Good News" of the Gospel of Christ (AFTER THE CROSS) is given in Ephesians 2:8-9 which says "For by GRACE are ye SAVED through FAITH; and that NOT of yourselves: it is THE GIFT OF GOD: Not of WORKS, lest any man should boast!"

Verse 10 says "We are his workmanship..." and if HE'S (Holy Spirit) molding us, why do we think we have to say "10 Hail Mary's, pray 10 times a day, read 5 Chapters each day, stop sinning (Oh, you don't think the Holy Spirit can take sinful desires away?), or ANYTHING when Scripture says that's HIS job!

MOST harp on James 2:17 "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone!"   Ephesians 2:8-9 would be a LIE if you have been "taught" the wrong understanding of James!  James means "If people can't literally see change (works) in one's life, their "belief" is limited and has hindered the Holy Spirit Whose job it is to change us!  Otherwise, John 14:26 would be a LIE which says (The Holy Spirit) "will lead and guide us into "ALL" truth!"  Not we ourselves by trying to fulfill our New Year's Resolution type promises to the LORD!

We need to STOP our "fleshly works" and let the Holy Spirit do HIS job! Romans 8:8 says "So then they that are in the flesh can not please GOD!"

So far that sounds like bad news, correct?

Her parents sent out her American doll and it returned as a gift for the girl. The little girl opened it and cried tears of joy. The doll had a leg piece just like the girl's! It did not cost the parents anything because the company who does it is charitable. That is the good news.

"Gospel" comes from a Greek word (euanggelion) that means "good message." The message is qualified as good because of the content of the message: that eternal life is accessible to those who believe in Christ through faith. This news therefore tells everyone about the facts concerning salvation. Otherwise, without this news they would not know about God and what He has already done for us in Christ.

This gospel does not proclaim (for example) political ideology, morality or prosperity because all of those things cease to have any value upon death.

By implication, because the gospel changes your awareness of what you will be spending eternity doing, it is news that changes your entire life.

I had an idea to look up the secular meaning. I think we all get the concept of good and that it varies from person to person from time to time but is generally acknowledged as something beneficial to someone.

But "news" is really quite interesting. From that Google dictionary that pops up first in the search for "definition of news" one gets this first; "
newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent or important events."
So if you look at it that way the Good News is beneficial new noteworthy information.
For me every time I reread a portion of the Bible something new and beneficial pops out at me. I cannot really say that about other books. So the good news to me is the Word which reveals news and is anew every time I contemplate it.
