Do you want to read a blog about something real? Something more profound than yarn or poetry? Something about changing the world one life at a time?
This is Adoption Sunday. Read about a 19 year old girl who went to Africa and adopted 14 African children by herself and is raising them (as well as other orphans in the place of their parents). She, now 22, is their mother and will be for life. Please... if you have anything to offer them, or if you don't, then take something. Take joy, take heart, take encouragement. I've never seen or met anyone like Katie. I hope you'll be as touched as I am every time I hear her speak.

Her book
Here is an excerpt from her blog:
" I can’t believe that it has been over a month now since I patted my sweet friend’s head as I said goodnight to her small frame on my couch. I can’t believe it has been over a month since I sat behind her in the hospital bed holding her body in the only position that was comfortable in those final hours.
And truth be told, in the late night hours alone with the Father on the cold, hard floor of my bathroom, I have beat my fists against the smooth tile and against my strong Father’s chest and I have sobbed it until the words won’t come, “I can’t believe she’s dead.”
We fought so hard.
It is her little boy’s sixth birthday. We had talked for weeks about the party we would have, with a cake, but that was when they still lived here, when his mother still lived. Instead, I drive across the bridge to where he is now being raised by his aunt and a kind neighbor. We bring the cake. We sing Happy Birthday and he is ok and the kids have fun and are happy. And as we drive away and all smile and wave, I cry.
I didn’t want the story to end this way."
I read her book earlier this year. I love the way she writes and her heart is just huge! She is unbelievably inspiring!! Thanks for reminding me of this.
"Katie, a charismatic and articulate young woman, is in the process of adopting thirteen children in Uganda and has established a ministry, Amazima, that feeds and sends hundreds more to school while teaching them the Word of Jesus Christ. "

At least we know her motive is evangelism.
I wonder what her motive for evangelism is... It's love. Love for those who do not know that they can be saved. And to be honest, if her motive were to save plant life, her work there would be no less necessary or impressive. She is saving lives and loving the unloved. When you do something like that, please let me know and i will start a thread about you too.
Indoctrination, of course.
Whatever I do for others is not because my motive is to teach them about Jesus. But, I can see you don't understand that.
Im glad to hear you've done something good in your life.
Hi Troubled - I don't want to cause trouble here, but I'm guessing if you knew Jesus you'd think differently
I think I know Jesus better than most Christians.
I understand those teachings while you follow Christianity, huge difference.
I am an atheist but still don't give a damn if she is saving them for Jesus. She is saving them. That's the important part here.
Yet, her book says that she has started a ministry with the intent of spreading the gospel. Haven't we seen this kind of thing before and the results thereof?
Yes, and in many cases they are pretty good. Christian charities have done a lot of good stuff. Some I am not a huge fan of (e.g. Salvation Army) but others I am (e.g. Quaker missions).
If the choice is between Christian and dead, I think Christian is the better option. But actually every one of those kids is being given the option of growing to adulthood and making up their own mind.
I think that is a win/win.
But, we're talking about African missionaries, not the Salvation Army. There's all kinds of material showing the damage those missionaries have done in the past and continue to do today.
Don't you mean they are being indoctrinated into Christianity as opposed to making up their own minds?
She's their mother. She's feeding them and clothing them. She's hugging them at night and cleaning up their vomit when they're ill... You're offended that she's teaching them Bible stories? She's living the Bible. Ive been to Africa... it's no less Ancient in many parts still than the streets of Jerusalem in Jesus's day. I saw ppl with leprosy, I saw children starving, I saw one mother holding a child in her arms that was dying... just walking the streets... I saw demon possessed ppl... it's very much like Bible times, throw in men with machine guns at every border... This woman brings them nothing but good, and if she fails at all, they're still 100 times better off than they were without her.
No, she's not their mother.
Absolutely, the Bible is highly offensive.
That's the problem.
So what? So have I.
Yes, that is the kind of nonsense those children will be taught.
When you legally adopt someone, you are legally their mother.
You take offense at the Bible b/c you do not understand it.
If you have been to Africa, then maybe you can imagine what it would take for a 19 year old girl to move there, adopt 14 kids and run an orphanage on her own. She *is a hero, Im sorry you can't see that.
What she is teaching those children will change the world for the better. She is teaching them to love your neighbor as you love yourself.
We are talking about a specific person who adopted a bunch of desperately needy children who needed a safe home. Good on her. I am far too selfish to do something like that but I am grateful better people than me exist in the world.
And I used the Salvation Army as an example. I don't like how they operate. Based on specific actions, not some broad generality.
And lots of people raise their kids to be Christian. It often doesn't stick. I don't see why her and her adopted kids are different from my middle class neighbors on that front. All parents try to indoctrinate their kids with all kinds of stuff, but adolescence is a very effective immunity.
Im glad, thanks. I feel like I shared something precious here... something too good for this forum. lol
What she does is like no one or nothing I've ever heard before... it's so completely selfless and to have her submitted to their ugly, dark remarks has made me angry... Ill try to regain my composure, but I should probably get away from the computer for a while.
Too good for this forum? Why not try a Christian evangelical site where it will be appreciated?

Without delving into a lot of deep studying on the origins of words, I'll make a suggestion. Could it be that Jesus was redefining what God is when He called Himself the Son of Man?THink about it: He often referred to God as His Father, right? And then He refers to Himself as the Son of Man....

THIS IS NOT A CYNICAL QUESTION!It is a serious question for people who are not Christians. If the 'other-than-Christians' are willing to engage in this discussion and Christians are willing to listen without interruption, this could be an opportunity for Christians to learn something about how...

Whilst I can't say I haven't learnt a lot from discussions on these forums, answers and hubs, one thing has become very apparent to me lately, and I'm sure I'm not alone. We are all capable of hiding behind a keyboard, saying anything in order to get the response we are seeking - be that anger,...
