For someone who has never been a church goer, what is the best way to go about learning the...
process, past, and what the pastor/preist is saying?
I would ask the pastor, one of the deacons, or a friend you know is a deeply committed follower of Christ.
I would recommend getting a copy of God's word--the Holy Bible. One with footnotes and in a language you understand is also key. God's word is not going to help you learn much of anything if you can't understand what is being said.
Talking with someone openly about your questions and concerns will get you some great insight. You will find that most of the people at church are more than willing to share their faith and help you understand!
Some churches also offer groups that meet throughout the week, for developing relationships and helping new people get acclimated and/or gain understanding.
The christ will not lead you from darkness into more darkness.
The Christ is that Spirit of Truth which in known from within that will lead you in all things pertaining to life and goodness and will not enslave you into the cleverly designed doctrines of men.
